I never watched the Twin Peaks series but I did see the film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. Is this something I need to watch?

The film is a prequel to the show and is kinda shit to be honest. I love the show. If you like Lynch-style weirdness, it's worth watching. The third season isn't as good in my opinion, but considering the time gap between seasons two and three, I can't complain too much.

Hmmmm. Given that Fire Walk With Me does reveal the whole mystery of the first 1 & 1/3 of the show, it may not be *important* but I love the show. Even with its janky 2nd half of the 2nd season (Lynch and Frost were sidetracked with other projects, so the show didn't get the attention it deserved until Lynch stepped back in with a killer last episode). I really enjoyed decades later season 3, but it was frustrating having to wait every week for a new episode. It's definitely more Lynchian-weird than the previous stuff, but I like that shit. The last episode felt way off, even with the characterization of Cooper, and then ending in yet another cliffhanger which is just frustrating because you never know when they're diving back into the world.

The original show does have a certain soap opera vibe too, which is intentionally satirical. New generations seem to miss this detail.

I'm actually going through the series again myself after just reading the Secret Diary of Laura Palmer. It put me in the mood. I'm already in Season 2.
