Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. Sorry I'm a couple days late saying thanks - trying to recovered from the last week of October still. :P

Should be ok, as even if you have to have root canal, that will be done before Thanksgiving. Should be able to eat bird, stuffing etc. Watch the desserts now though, sticky overly sugary days are done. My mom pulled her crown off eating a Werthers caramel, told her can't be doings.

You'll probably be ok as that's not crazy sticky, but it's just not good idea. Sweets need to be a little more straight forward now.

Yep. Learned the hard way myself. That dental cement is not that strong.

OOF! Before eating holiday is never good time for a temp. General rule. No chewing on the side with the temp, keep food to the other side, stick to softer foods (think scrambled eggs, soft fish, chicken, oatmeal, soup etc) until you get your perm crown. No sticky foods either. The crunchy breaks it (seen it happen with salads and even toast) and the sticky pulls it off. It is usually made of only acrylic so cannot handle strong occlusal forces. Plus it is based off of your original tooth but never as strong. It may have a weak spot that thins the top and if you bite into that crunchy it cracks it. You don't notice then, next thing that comes over BAM. Breaks into pieces.

Ask your office if they have some single temp cement packets they can give you. Most offices have these emergency packets ready to go. Some even keep at front desk and you just have to walk in and grab. It is nice because it is thin and easy to use. If it came off during holiday you could cement it quickly and easily back on. Worse comes to worse if it comes off ,most stores sell some Dentek paste (it sucks because it is as thick as bubble gum, but gets it back on for ya) that you can pick up if it comes off.
Temps suck, some offices don't even do them anymore because they are scanning and milling in office but you don't want that. They are only milling with porcelain, not as strong as a zirc porc combo from lab. That is what you want.

My advice ...enjoy the softer foods of Thanksgiving but eat only on the opposite side. Turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie are all soft. Maybe kick off those french's onions off the grean bean casserole. No sticky cheeses etc.

When it goes on permanently they should warn you about sticky foods with it. So far this year I've seen Dots, Milk Duds, Swedish Fish and an old Starbust that someone found in a drawer all pull off decent crowns. It's not sticky per say but if it surrounds the crown and the border, (think like The Blob!) creates a suction between upper and lower arches. All it takes. Hell, we have a box of crown removers that look like fruit snacks. They get soaked in water until soft and all it takes is a bite down for it to pop off. Very useful when there is a request for a gold crown to not be separated when removed. It also depends on the shallowness of the prep in case of second molars... Then again there are crowns that hang on for dear friggen life and 1 1/2 hours later still are fighting to get it off.
