Detroit

Hard, but great watch. I've never seen this Will Poulter kid before (I know he was originally cast as Pennywise before production musical chairs), but I think we got a new great character actor coming up here. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets nominated for Supporting Actor.

EDIT: It was late last night and totally forgot Poulter was in The Revenant. He was good there, but he's stellar here.

Got around to watching Dunkirk. What a film. Intense, thrilling and really well shot. Top marks.

Right how it's my #1 film of the year (just slightly edged Logan). Could change, there's still 4 months.

Oh, I saw Logan. Was p. cool. Moderately disappointed, but I was expecting a hell of a lot out of it. I did quite like it. I could see that it was inspired a good deal by The Last of Us. And the references to Shane (1953) were awesome. The little girl was a bit of a damper on the movie, to be honest. The silent treatment has been done to death with children in movies, when she finally did speak her voice was annoying, constant espanol, etc... Overall solid. And I know nothing about the X-Men.

Ceri and I thought something similar. Very high up the list. Ceri definitely had it at number 1. I think I would put Guardians 2 above it for enjoyment. And it's better than Hacksaw Ridge which is the closest proxy. It's just such a compelling view of a difficult section of the war. Hardy is excellent as usual. I even thought Harry bloody Styles was ok in it. The performances were great. A few horrible moments throughout. Felt claustrophobic at the right moments. But also greasy use of alternate timelines.

Yeah, the spinning of the timelines should definitely put it as a shoe-in for Best Editing.

This year's been pretty great for movies to me so far, Guardians 2 has slumped well out of my top 5 by now, but I still loved that one too.

It has been a good year for films. Looking back over my cinema list alone there's a bunch of greats. Very pleased it's a good year.

Buried

Forgot his little gem. Great film with a very interesting premise. Suggests that Ryan Reynolds really can act more than just bring a smart as.

Atomic Blonde.

Solid action and nudity. Tries to be a convoluted plot but that makes it feel a bit forced. Maybe that was how the comics were. But the plot didn't work that well for me. Still, easy to watch.

On Blu ray : Phoenix Forgotten. Loved it in theaters, love it even more with audio commentary. Like Blair Witch, 2 guys, one girl, but with a better pay off and aliens. Also based on Phoenix Lights not some made up Witch. Fun little movie.

Theaters : Annabelle Creation. Did not have high hopes for this one, but was pleasantly surprised a lot. No spoilers for those who haven't seen it, but there was a lot of unexpected content. A nice little addition to the series. Not the greatest, but not the worst.

I had no idea this was a comic adaption. I thought it was a new movie in the John Wick universe.

Is it? It said it was a graphic novel adaptation. Set in 1989. Definitely not very Wick-like in my book.

it is not related to the john wick movies, outside of the director being involved in the first one. but that could change as there does seem to be intent to make a wick universe of films.

I doubt Atomic Blonde would fit that well personally. But maybe I'm wrong.

it feels like it's just something as a way to humor the notion. but, again, that could change at some point.

Still talk, lol. It was all over when AB came out. Hence my confusion when Seb mentioned it was a comic book adaption and the whole 1989 thing. It would be weird for them to team up with that huge of a time gap.
