I heard from two different people that the Substance is a remake. One said it was a remake of Seconds(1966 thriller with Rock Hudson), the other Rejuvenatrix(1988 horror film). I read the synopses for them and I can see why they claim it's a remake. Anyone seen either? Found Rejuventrix on youtube if anyone wants to check it out.

Never seen either, but Rejuvenatrix seems like the most likely candidate to say remake/rip-off. The idea in general of a quick fix fountain of youth gone wrong isn't new at all though. I kept thinking of the Schwarzenegger directed episode of Tales from the Crypt, the Switch, while watching. But if Seconds was the first to do something like that, definite nod to it.

Seconds is an interesting one. Feels like a long Twilight Zone episode. Not one of my favorite Frankenheimers, but a lot of people love it

Indubitably. If you're adamant, like even Jigs was about Scooby Doo, go for it. Just don't get bent if choices get shit on.zombie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 9:02 am if the primary or secondary intent throughout is to scare, spook, or disgust the viewer in an overwhelming way, then it's a horror film. i don't think we should have to put up individual titles for some kind of review. we're all horror fans. if a film is horror enough to make your top 25, then include it?

Sunday dinner. I cut up sweet potatoes, turnips ,carrots, parsnips and onion put in a roasting pan with olive oil, salt, pepper and fresh thyme. Stuff a 6-8 pound chicken with a bunch of thyme, garlic and two halves of a lemon. Cover chicken with melted butter, Salt and pepper. 2 hours later serve with good oven warmed bread.

Bada Bam, Lagasse! What's your favorite home cooked meal/recipe? I did your homemade chicken pot pie thing and it came out good.Tiggnutz wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 1:39 pm Sunday dinner. The fountain of youth bit is too general to compare, but these have more specific points. It seems more like a combination of the two after looking into it. Seconds has the whole giving someone a card with an address on it that leads them to the youth thing, whereas Rejuvenatrix has the serum, actress, and body horror thing going for it. Slap the two together and you get a close approximation of the Substance. All three seem to be very different films, though.Reign in Blood wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 1:23 pm Never seen either, but Rejuvenatrix seems like the most likely candidate to say remake/rip-off. Checked his filmography. The only film of his I've seen is the Dr. Moreau remake. Can't say I'm a fan.Headhunter wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 1:27 pm Seconds is an interesting one. Feels like a long Twilight Zone episode. Not one of my favorite Frankenheimers, but a lot of people love it

Would agree. Maybe the writer used AI and threw the two scripts into the machine, and this is what it crapped out.Slaughterhouserock wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 1:45 pmThe fountain of youth bit is too general to compare, but these have more specific points. That would be funny, especially given the recent writer strike about AI shit.Reign in Blood wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 1:48 pm Would agree. Maybe the writer used AI and threw the two scripts into the machine, and this is what it crapped out.

With this pesto pasta the pancetta is a must and I prefer plain panko bread crumbs instead of pine nutsTiggnutz wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 1:47 pmThis one or https://www.garlicwars.com/the-perfect- ... ta-recipe/ would be my favoriteReign in Blood wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 1:42 pmBada Bam, Lagasse! I want to watch that one again actually. I remember it being batshit. And then the stories of Brando and Kilmer really being batshit on set just add.Slaughterhouserock wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 1:48 pmChecked his filmography. Yeah, I think the behind the scenes stuff was more interesting than the film.Reign in Blood wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 1:52 pm I want to watch that one again actually. I remember it being batshit. And then the stories of Brando and Kilmer really being batshit on set just add.

I always use a 7 or 8 pound chicken so I take the cooking time up to 2 hours. When it's done use tongs to pull the lemon halves out and squeeze them over the vegetablesTiggnutz wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 2:02 pmAlso your house will smell fantastic for 2 daysTiggnutz wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 1:59 pm https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina ... pe-1940592
