As in literally. Niqab is the face mask and clothes. Burqa is the blue garment with only eye-holes effectively. They're not all the same.

Re: More destruction of historical statues and monuments
The Confederate statues were intended to continue the work of Lost Cause scholarship and mythologize lies and fantasies about the South to appease future generations' sense of morality. Clearly it worked but lol @ this national discussion about the meaning of the statues as if it's actually up for debate. There's recognizing truth and blinding yourself to it here, not many sides.

And I can't be bothered to read 11 pages of this shit, so that's all I have to say.

Re: More destruction of historical statues and monuments
the debate largely was about censorship, honestly. and now it's become about oppressing muslims in the name of freedom, because i made the mistake of trying to equate the hijab issue with the statue issue.

no harm there. you shouldn't feel obligated to read or post to things you're not interested in.Headhunter wrote:Guilty, I didn't read any of this thread. Do you think a man should be able to walk around with his dick out in publiczombie wrote:if you want a mandatory dress code to be enforced for the nation, that's your call. i'm opposed to that. we live in a country where women are free. if you want to stand against abuse and oppression, support the things that we have in place to protect all women in this country. don't make a restriction, specific to muslim women because it suits your agenda.Foo wrote:The point is that society sets standards of dress. To claim in any way that setting a dress standard is somehow a greater restriction than condoning the abuse and oppression of women is absurd. By allowing the hijab, you are assisting the abuse, rather than standing against it.zombie wrote:i thought you were arguing that they aren't free. if everyone is not free (for that very silly reason) then they can be not free wearing the hijab, and not free wearing something other than the hijab.
I don't support no-Muslim women to be forced into a situation where they must wear hijabs either.

Good for you, you're a better poster than me. Doesn't explain your desperate reliance on strawman arguments though...Foo wrote:I try to read every post in search of new information and enlightenment.Headhunter wrote:Guilty, I didn't read any of this thread. You should heed your own advice occasionally. You won't look as ridiculous trying to make this point next time...
Means nothing if you read a post, don't soak in any information from it and respond with irrelevant nonsense for the sake of misdirection. That seems to be your MO lately. Based on my avoidance of one 11 page thread about shit we've already discussed, you want to make some overarching judgment of my character. This is almost as hilariously misguided as the time you tried to suggest I complain about politics too much. The lady doth protest waaaaaay too much, buddy. Yuuuuuge projection.

Which sickens and disgusts. There's no fun in that...showa58taro wrote:I also love arguing with Zombie. He's actually going to address me as a real person. Notjust a punching bag.
