Liberal Plot to Destroy Small Business
Is it intentional, ignorance, or a combination of both?
- So many barriers that only profitable, established businesses can comply
- Aggressive enforcement of zoning laws that reduce commercial/industrial pace/opportunity
- regulations that tie creative entrepeneurship to spending
- tax laws that favor massive capital investment
- Minimum wage requirements that limit the introduction of new labor for expansion and giving opportunity to unskilled workers

Aside from a working minimum wage none of those sound like they come from any Liberalism I've studied. Are you sure it's not just your gripe with Maryland laws??Foo wrote:Is it intentional, ignorance, or a combination of both?

Just reading your list, it seems like Barriers are just your buzzword. Nobody creates an ideology intending to just be a set of barriers. Most barriers are naturally occurring economic realities.
Zoning I thought was city planning. Regulations don't tie spending they prohibit abuses of things.
Tax laws are not usually business unfriendly.

I think it's just a Foo gripe thread.
Re: Liberal Plot to Destroy Small Business
It is perfectly titled as it covers both. Corporations use liberals as useful idiots.zombie wrote:can we rename the thread "corporate plot to destroy small business"?

Why hire 250 illegals when you could be hiring Americans?

Nope. Similar laws exist in everywhere controlled by liberals.showa58taro wrote:Aside from a working minimum wage none of those sound like they come from any Liberalism I've studied. Minimum wage laws for sure attack right at small business. They don't have the systems or the margins. Mom and Pop's Burger Barn can't sink $50M into automation to replace the labor, and they are generally not operating with the same margins to absorb great increases in labor cost.

"Ok sir, in order to start your hot dog cart, we are gonna need $500 for a plan review. Then, we are gonna need to make sure that cart is approved by NSF. Now, we need you to put HCAAP food handling procedures in writing. Now, before you start, we are gonna need copies of your insurance certificates and also copies of your ServSafe certificates for the classes that are required. We also need a copy of the certification for your commissary's kitchen approval by the Health Department, your peddler's license, and your tax license. We are gonna need you to provide us with quarterly tax payments. Good luck!"Foo wrote: - So many barriers that only profitable, established businesses can comply

"Oh, you can't put that business there. If you wish to try you can fill out this form and pay a $300 fee to have the zoning reviewed."Foo wrote: - Aggressive enforcement of zoning laws that reduce commercial/industrial opportunity
"Oh, you need to install fire suppression to serve hot dogs. Oh, and you need to have a public bathroom. Oh, and where is the floor drain in this building?"
"You know, this town already has five pizza places..."

*edit* hmm.. i misread your post. seems we're in agreement, more or less.
Re: Liberal Plot to Destroy Small Business
started watching the founder, which ties well into this discussion. (didn't get to finish yet. bad copy) so far, the guy over-extended his part of the business, so he found a way to rip the original owners off, to further profit himself. that's how corporations work against small business. but greed is good.

Do you oppose DACA and similar amnesty-type programs?zombie wrote:illegals can be paid less than americans. corporations use politicians to further their ends. maybe politicians are the useful idiots?Foo wrote:It is perfectly titled as it covers both. Re: Liberal Plot to Destroy Small Business
You said the movie showed corporations working against small business. How is that portrayed in the movie?
Re: Liberal Plot to Destroy Small Business
ray kroc essentially worked as a corporation, to undercut the smaller business of the mcdonald brothers. he bought the land out from under them, essentially forcing them to lease from him, because they had a restaurant on what is now his land.Foo wrote:You said the movie showed corporations working against small business.
