If he's including The Revenant then I guess I can include Sukiyaki Westetn Django.

Frontiersman fur trappers being hunted by Indians in 1823 is a western by every definition I can't see the argument for The Revenant not being one.

I'm truly split on The Revenant here. On one hand, the story at its core is a classic western revenge tale. On the other hand, it really doesn't FEEL like one. The setting is too gritty, too real.

If you were alive in the old West in say Arizona territory or New Mexico do you think you would ever get a cold beer or cold drink of any kind?

I stick with the late 1800's American West setting (typically post Civil War) to declare "Western". No Modern Westerns like Near Dark & Mad Max applied, or movies that may seem like it but are out of the time period like Last Of The Mohicans and The Revenant.

1. Unforgiven
2. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
3. Once Upon A Time In The West
4. The Hateful Eight (seriously)
5. Dances With Wolves
6. The Outlaw Josey Wales
7. High Plains Drifter
8. The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford
9. Django Unchained
10. For A Few Dollars More
11. High Noon (1952)
12. A Fistful Of Dollars
13. Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid
14. True Grit (2010)
15. Tombstone
16. 3:10 To Yuma (2007)
17. Pale Rider
18. Bone Tomahawk
19. Blazing Saddles
20. Maverick
21. Open Range
22. Young Guns
23. The Quick & The Dead (1995)
24. Two Mules For Sister Sarah
25. Apalooza

Some days I feel like I like Once Upon A Time In The West more than The Good The Bad & The Ugly. Those two are so close for me.

I'm editing the list on flickchart. I've never tweaked a western list on there before, placement of things seemed questionable to me after the first 10 or so.

I prefer the gunfighter songs that tell stories similar to High Noon, as opposed to the actual movie. :p

Movie was good, got my gal Grace in it, but Gary Cooper could've been better, imo.

I guess. Barely. :p

I'm more into the hard ass story telling like Marty Robbins does. "Big Iron" can fit into almost any old west movie. lol.
