Society did not really lose our balls until like 10 years ago.

Amazing how sanitized everything has become. They could not even make Ladybugs today because the alphabet people would protest the notion.

I was watching The Great Outdoors, while monitoring most of this whole conversation, and kept picturing Akroyd's Chet delivering your posts lol.

Seemed like the neutering was occurring in the 90's to me. At least it did with horror.

John Candy always had some decent looking wives in his movies.

I feel like that was more a function of going after a different audience. Kevin Smith and Tarantino were certainly pushing language in the mid 90s.

Lots of scenes and dialogue that would be cut today.

That he did. He was a charming and lovable guy though, so I believed his personality would win over.

Lots of discussion about Braveheart.

"Mel Gibson created a gay British prince who DID NOT EXIST at the time of William Wallace just so the gay prince's boyfriend could be hurled out the window of a castle to his death. Whenever this scene plays in theatres, the audience erupts into laughter and cheers. And there is NO reason for their joy aside from the fact that they just got to see a gay man killed. %0D %0D It is sickening. And Mel Gibson intensionally created this historically inaccurate event and sold it as true history. The world sadly believed it and loved it. It is the most terrifying experience I ever had to watch this in a theatre."

Anybody ever hear Norm MacDonald's bit about being a deeply closeted gay man? Funny stuff, but absolutely not his best work.

Anyway, Norm was on Conan one time and started doing his bit, and the liberal L.A. audience obviously never heard the joke before, because they almost erupted in a standing ovation, thinking he was coming out as gay until he continued on with the bit and they finally got it. Lol.

The gay talk just reminded me of that.

Also, I saw a post somwhere online (I'm assuming satire, but you never know with the intolerant left, lol) that accused gay men of being sexist because they won't sleep with a woman only because she has a vagina.

Jesus, Jason. You all used to fuck with me back in the day for talking about gay shit. You do it all the time now, and no one bats an eye. Let's argue about some football damnit!

I was gonna say, perceptions here seem different to reality.

Also, nobody laughed at the window scene, it’s terrifying, and nobody should aim to always be the boss, that’s not Foo’s point.

his ultimate point was find a way to be happy, but don't ever do pot. he also asked that we should live up to his standard, but that wasn't his ultimate point, i get that.

i don't think we lost our balls as far as art goes. if we have, it's only temporary, but more likely it's just shifted into a different way to express it. culture changes. art and expression changes with culture.

*cracks knuckles* Here's my unwanted take on this whole thing...

His ultimate point had nothing to do with pot, that was a vehicle to get to the destination. Honestly, Foo was making good faith arguments the entire thread and you guys were just not trying to hear him out and getting hung up on irrelevant stuff. Find your ambition, set some attainable goals to fulfill that ambition and build your life around that journey. You can do that while smoking pot and you can do that while not being "the boss" (except in the sense of controlling your own destiny). You can't do it if you have a built-in excuse for not facing every challenge, though.

I mean, who the hell cares if a quote that rings 100% true was said by a capitalist? We should disregard anything said by anyone whose political ideology we don't align with? That's just insane to me. Think like a winner and you start winning. It sucks hearing you guys express such a defeatist attitude in your responses.
Not removing until John Elway is fired.
