Why horror?

so, "prestige horror" is a thing now. because apparently just getting some critical acclaim deserves it's own subcategory, within the genre. horror is largely seen as a garbage genre by the mainstream. so, as fans, what makes it your favorite? or if not your favorite, what about it resonates with you? what holds your interest? what keeps you coming back to the genre?

it's mostly articles and youtube stuff. i didn't mean that i was talking to people, just heard/seen talk of it. but avoiding is not a bad choice.

yeah, i haven't seen anything about stuff like the neon demon or whatever get mentioned. it definitely seems to be about critical acclaim. even some going as far as trying to tie it to stuff like the exorcist or silence of the lambs, because they got acclaim and oscar nods and stuff. enh.

i feel like it shouldn't need to have a qualifier.i mean there's no "prestige action". it kind of frustrates me. i don't like the reputation that horror always gets. i was looking to talk about why you like horror, what keeps you interested in the genre. etc. that's all.
