No, it really wasn't bizarre. Pretty typical of what happens in those situations with an all-time great defense in a big game. They got shut down by a unit that had better athletes all over the field. They made Denver look like they were playing in mud.Jason wrote:It was bizarre. There were so many uncharacteristic mistakes that had absolutely nothing to do with who was on the field.Headhunter wrote:Except...not the entire season. Because they scored a single touchdown in garbage time in the most important game of the year.Jason wrote:T'was a bizarre night, the 2013 Texans would've likely beaten Denver that day. It wasn't bizarre, they were totally outmatched by a vastly superior unit that was clearly faster and more modern.

If only Seattle wasn't on the field during all those miscues and hiking the ball out of the end zone on the first play of the game, dammit.

All those miscues...forced by Seattle's awesome defense, with the exception of the safety. A 2-0 deficit was too much for the "best offense ever" to overcome?Jason wrote:If only Seattle wasn't on the field during all those miscues and hiking the ball out of the end zone on the first play of the game, dammit.
Sometimes it feels like all you're actually watching are Denver's players with your analysis. Nobody ever does anything right, it's just Denver fuck ups that are the reason they haven't won every game ever.

In THIS THREAD you will find me going out of my way to say Keenum was not to blame on a throw or interception that was generated by great defensive play.

You said all I'm doing is watching what Denver players are doing and am incapable of recognizing that talent is better on the other end. Which is clearly untrue. And when I am criticizing Denver players, it is from a place of wanting to see improvement. The o-line is finally not doing the mannequin challenge!

Well, there have been two clear examples of you talking about games and having no clue what the opposing team was doing to make things difficult for Denver to the point where it sounds like you weren't even watching the games, so yeah, pretty reasonable to assume you view things through an extremely Broncos-centric lens. But yeah, from a semantics standpoint I guess you got me (I did say "sometimes" but hey). At least once, you've seen things as they actually are. I would hope that would be the standard.

Blaming corners for not being able to cover KC receivers for 5+ seconds when Mahomes escaped the pocket 20 times, not seeing Seattle's defense made Denver's offense its bitch for four quarters. These things weren't cryptic or subjective, they were clear as day.

Anyway, getting sidetracked by your bizarre takes was not my intention. Greatest offense ever my ass.
Elway fanboys need to stop living in the past. He needs to go to rehab (he looks like utter shit all the time now, it's getting REALLY bad) and Denver needs to bring in real talent evaluators.

What was a greater offense? Because the only time they didn't play well was in the Super Bowl is the reason you're not giving them the nod? You did say the secondary should be able to cover for 5+ in the KC game. It was so ludicrous it blew everyone's collective mind, so I can see how it may have left yours.Jason wrote:What is "Never once did I say Denver wasn't outplayed in those games. Re: NFL 2018: From the Draft to the Super Bowl
Well, in fairness that's poor phrasing on part. It's not that he thought they should have been able to cover 5+ seconds, it was that he didn't think they were covering for 5+ seconds. What he apparently didn't see was Mahomes breaking contain of the pass rush (which Jason also said was non-existent, also wrong) and rolling out to buy himself 2-3 extra seconds all game long. I have no idea how you could watch that game and not see that's how KC broke Denver's defense, which played really well.Reign in Blood wrote:You did say the secondary should be able to cover for 5+ in the KC game. Re: NFL 2018: From the Draft to the Super Bowl
This was my response to the 5+ seconds claim.Jason wrote:Mahomes would roll out on half the plays when there was no rush at all. They were holding Mahomes to a mediocre game all day until the 4th quarter arrived and the secondary was non-existent, and the pass rush was non-existent, and the run support was non-existent. They contained for most of the game, and blew their wad in the 4th. They looked like a completely different defense in the 4th quarter. Just ugly, terrible defense.Headhunter wrote:You can't play man for 5+ seconds.

Re: NFL 2018: From the Draft to the Super Bowl
Basically every assertion there is wrong. He was rolling out because of the rush, the secondary was gassed from chasing their receivers play after play all night and still held up well, the run defense was insufficient by design (and worked).Jason wrote:This was my response to the 5+ seconds claim.Jason wrote:Mahomes would roll out on half the plays when there was no rush at all. How? Denver broke any record any of them might have had. And two of those teams lost in the playoffs. One didn't even make the Super Bowl and the other put up 14 points against the Wild Card Giants.Headhunter wrote:1998 Vikings, Greatest Show on Turf, 2007 Pats all better.Jason wrote:What was a greater offense? Silly to suggest any of those were better than Denver's offense in 2013. The 1998 Denver offense was just as good or better than the 1998 Vikings offense.

Who cares about records? Scoring was a lot easier in 2013 than 2007, which was a lot easier than 1999 etc.Jason wrote:How? Denver broke any record any of them might have had. Denver's offense was slow and lethargic looking when they finally faced an elite defense.

Re: NFL 2018: From the Draft to the Super Bowl
The shift in favor of offensive scoring happened in early-mid 2000s. And the Pats cheat, anyway. So I'm not giving them the time of day.Headhunter wrote:Who cares about records?
