Is ‘Mary Poppins’ racist? Professor in New York Times op-ed says chimney scene promotes blackface

All these years I thought it was soot from of a chimney not an attack on an entire race A professor wrote this the New York Times thought it was worth printing

I feel that he’s definitely in the wrong at the point he made that move and had that thought, even if it was just rage. But I think he’s been driven by better motives and isn’t racist. No reason to obsess. Let him make films. He’s too awesome not to.

It came out more like a confession than him answering the question, imo. A lot of people really missed the context on what he had to say though. And now Terry Crews is coming under fire for "defending" him.
