Re: NBA Playoffs
Here is a thought. Maybe they should be invited before they start their protest? Maybe they should consider the tone of the invitation? Maybe they should consider what is going on at that moment?
I am not sure why a potential White House invite is political at all. As a league champion of one of our premier national sports, you are invited to the nations capital by the president. It is not like a campaign rally. People should show some class.

So why not go? Nothing to lose.Headhunter wrote:I don't see why it would be lost one anyone, they're football players...that's about all there is to say I'd think.Reign in Blood wrote:When Brandon Marshall was doing the Kaepernickel, what did he do? But you're right, it's politics, within the sports realm. Talking about Brandon Marshall and Kaepernickel would be lost on most in the politics forum.
I mean the Warriors play in shitass Oakland. They are the community role models already, what they do for the people there makes a far bigger measurable impact than chatting with Trump. Obviously food drives aren't gonna make national headlines or anything though.

Re: NBA Playoffs
This is no different from the NBA moving its All Star Game out of North Carolina due to the bathroom laws. The NBA has long encouraged its members to openly celebrate and support liberal politics from the top down. All 30 teams would have done the same.

Re: NBA Playoffs
Your fanbase largely hates the administration? Regardless of how you guys feel, a lot of minority groups think the administration has emboldened prejudice and the NBA is the most popular of the big four sports among non-whites. Imagine having that perspective, for however much you can't understand it/think it's BS, and seeing your idols and heroes mixing it up with them? It's a pact of solidarity with communities who feel disenfranchised, that's it.Reign in Blood wrote:So why not go? And none of that is my analysis, I'm telling you why they wouldn't want to.

Re: NBA Playoffs
As role models, showing some class would send the message that the Bay Area needs.
I am sure you guys would be shocked to learn of some of the events my business has participated in. If you are invited and can go, you go likevthe champion you are and send a positive message about listening, learning, and showing respect.
These protests send the wrong messages to kids, the kind of messages that cause kids to struggle in life and school.

Should the Warriors also not do events with police? Is it more helpful for Steph Curry to be with Oakland police on events, or to snub police events?Headhunter wrote:Your fanbase largely hates the administration? I would argue that area does not need Anti-authority messages.

You are the one escalating the message, not them. I'm sure they support responsible policing.Foo wrote:Should the Warriors also not do events with police? It would be more helpful for him to show up to those events, especially if it's publicly known that he snubbed them which is not a good look. The NFL anthem kneelers all spent time with police/did events/ride-alongs, so for as much shit as they got the reaction to straight up disrespecting police would not be good.

Re: NBA Playoffs
I wonder how many events the Warriors do every year that benefit their community? And a symbolic gesture of respect is more important? Professional sports teams go above and beyond already, they embody what every citizen should strive to be as far as making a difference for the world around you, lending your time and money to good causes and inspiring less fortunate people.

Re: NBA Playoffs
The work NBA guys do in their cities/regions off the court is also why i find it ultimately petty to get upset when players leave in free agency and stuff of that nature. Fans can never tangibly appreciate the good work they've done off the court and it gets lost.

Tribalism is not really a worthy cause especially when it is wrapped in money.Headhunter wrote:I wonder how many events the Warriors do every year that benefit their community? Also, no one stresses the value of respect and education like the NBA!

I didn't say this was a worthy cause, just that it makes no differences. They already do a lot.Foo wrote:Tribalism is not really a worthy cause especially when it is wrapped in money.Headhunter wrote:I wonder how many events the Warriors do every year that benefit their community? Remember when Obama spoke of "teachable moments"? It is the same thing. At best, the appropriate response to the White House thing is to indicate you have not been invited. Upon the invite, if you can go, you go and show respect to the office. Acting like a bunch of classless fools when you fashion yourselves as role models is the opposite of what one should do.Headhunter wrote:I didn't say this was a worthy cause, just that it makes no differences. Much ado about nothing. Hurts nobody, makes the NBA look good to its consumers. They make a much more direct impact on their community all the time.Foo wrote:Remember when Obama spoke of "teachable moments"? It is the same thing. By the way, only Steve Kerr has been on record talking about this from the Warriors' perspective. He didn't address skipping it, but did suggest there was upside to it. Nothing but rumors at this point.

Steph Curry is also buddies with Obama.
You know, the guy who Trump shamelessly disrespected for years by championing the abhorrent birther movement? Any friends of Obama owe Trump no civility.

Doesn't mean it wasn't disgustingly low. And Trump was THE public champion of that.
