Re: September 25th 2019
The somewhat amusing thing is, I don't even hate Carrie. I just don't think it's that good. It's a bit below average in my opinion, but not any worse.

Burnt Offerings is possibly my number one, as well. Not a whole lot of horror to choose from in the pool of 1976, though.

Wow. What a snob!Jigsaw wrote:Jason wrote:His #1 is probably Burnt Offerings.Headhunter wrote:Can't remember if you are one of the Omen haters like me. Alice, Sweet Alice? Bloodsucking Freaks?Jigsaw wrote:Just made a top four horror films from 1976, and Carrie was nowhere to be found.
Thought you all so know now while you still detest me for not seeing Goodfellas.
Jason's the winner. Burnt Offerings is my #1, followed closely by The Omen (always liked this one). The third is a bit of a surprise (even to me, as I was making the list), which is The Town That Dreaded Sundown. #4 is indeed Alice, Sweet Alice.
Bloodsucking Freaks (personally, I think The Incredible Torture Show is a better name, though) was goofy fun, but the year was too strong for a movie that's goofy fun to place top four.

Does anyone have a legitimate #1 horror movie of all time?

I have no idea if this link will work for you, but I've seen only 23 horror films from 1976, and there's certainly not that many great ones: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls053738847/? ... tls_ref_yrJason wrote:Burnt Offerings is possibly my number one, as well. I've never wavered. I think the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre is the best horror film ever made.Jason wrote:Does anyone have a legitimate #1 horror movie of all time?

Halloween (1978) for me. If asked what my favorite horror movie is, it's my immediate go-to. While a handful of movies get 10/10's from me, Halloween is among the most rewatchable, in my opinion.Jason wrote:Does anyone have a legitimate #1 horror movie of all time?

Is it time for the all-time HMF top 25? Is that what I'm reading?

Re: September 25th 2019
It's been years since I last saw it, but I thought it was just okay. It could have been better, but I did like the setting and atmosphere. At the same time, it's not one that I've seen in recent years, so I can't fairly comment on it, but I do think it'd be hard to move above Alice, Sweet Alice.Jason wrote:Eaten Alive really wasn't that bad. When I was big on making lists like 10-15 years ago, Psycho was generally on top. Re-Animator, The Evil Dead, Halloween kinda rounded out the top 4, I think. TCSM was definitely in the top 50 if I ever made one.Headhunter wrote:I've never wavered. Today, though. After letting all these movies sit for so many years, wisdom and experience settling in, my choice is probably Friday the 13th IV: The Final Chapter. The ultimate slasher film in the ultimate horror franchise.

It's a good pick. I like 2 & 3 more, but 4 is kinda the defining slasher movie IMO.Jason wrote:When I was big on making lists like 10-15 years ago, Psycho was generally on top. it's not the fog or nightmare on elmstreet. so, as remakes go, you can do worse.Ava wrote:I really liked that remake!zombie wrote:*prints out a copy of the cover to chloe moretz' version* no need to come my way.Ava wrote:Every copy on this planet of the original Carrie should be burned. Maybe it's not time for HMF's all-time top 25, but rather...HMF's top 10 horror remakes.

I don't hand out 10/10s like candy on Halloween, that's for sure.Jigsaw wrote:Halloween (1978) for me. If asked what my favorite horror movie is, it's my immediate go-to. Halloween is a 10/10 for me. In a few weeks I'm gonna take a drive down to the city where they filmed the movie. About an hour away from me. Should be a good time.

Phantasm.

It's hard for me to pick a favorite. There are quite a few I've loved as if they were #1. Many I feel are still deserving.zombie wrote:i thought we all had our own favorite? mine is nightmare on elm street.Jason wrote:Does anyone have a legitimate #1 horror movie of all time?
