I have a new found appreciation for the blink-of-an-eye nature of almost all the death scenes.
Re: 9-28-2019
3.5 or 4/5. Very cool.

Love that on-the-nose last shot.
So where does this land on the Scorsese rankings?

Goodfellas and Casino to me are in the god tier of film where you can watch them any time they're on. From there, lot of movies to sort through

Easily top 5 Scorsese for me. Probably 3rd behind Taxi Driver and Goodfellas.Headhunter wrote:Love that on-the-nose last shot.

Raging Bull's great but doesn't have the casual rewatchable pace of many of his others.

I think it will be very similar to Casino. And Goodfellas too but since this thing is 3+ hours, more epic in scope like Casino.Reign in Blood wrote:This makes me more excited for the Irishman.

Agreed. Honestly, the Departed should be right there with them, but we grew up with the other 2.Headhunter wrote:Goodfellas and Casino to me are in the god tier of film where you can watch them any time they're on. From there, lot of movies to sort through

Re: 9-28-2019
Also, Scorsese has to have the most great movies of any director, right? Not necessarily the most 9/10s but a lot of 8/10s. I guess Spielberg also has the longevity to challenge that, but Scorsese has at least 10.

Re: 9-28-2019
One thing about Goodfellas and Casino is the narration makes it so you can be preoccupied while the movie is on and follow it. I love good background movies for those kinds of practical reasons. Jackie Brown has risen on my all time QT list because it's an unbelievably good background movie.Reign in Blood wrote:Agreed. I used to say Spielberg, but I own surprisingly little of his films. Indy, JP and Minority Report.

Re: 9-28-2019
Its weird how forgettable a lot of Spielberg's recent shit is, even though it's generally pretty good. How do you lose that "event director" status that way?Reign in Blood wrote:I used to say Spielberg, but I own surprisingly little of his films. Indy, JP and Minority Report.

If Cape Fear counts as horror, I'd legitimately have it ranked right up there with The Thing. :p
