Acting like death machines the can kill tons of people very quickly are irrelevant is a silly thing to do. The gun argument always gets dumbed down to a guns vs. mental health thing, but the "anti-gun" people also support mental health initiatives that Republicans always gut. Republicans' actual solutions to this stuff are for more God in schools.

Here comes the gun debate.
Re: November 15th 2019
it's still a way to avoid parental and local responsibility. but at least it's toward something that is designed to cause harm or death. regulate them. then restrict them. then ban them.... and then move onto the next thing that can be used to avoid personal responsibility.Headhunter wrote:Acting like death machines the can kill tons of people very quickly are irrelevant is a silly thing to do. We can pretend the guns don't matter if you have another explanation for why this epidemic that rarely occurs anywhere outside the U.S, happens so frequently here.

The guns do matter. But this goes back to my point earlier. 99.99% of people should not be punished because the 0.01% fuck it up for everyone else. The kid is a scumbag and it's in all likelihood that his parents are to blame.Headhunter wrote:We can pretend the guns don't matter if you have another explanation for why this epidemic that rarely occurs anywhere outside the U.S, happens so frequently here.

Sad world we live in where the inconvenience of jumping through some extra hoops outweighs cutting down on preventable tragedies. Are we that selfish?

Well, you can implement common sense reforms that will cut down on tragedies, or you can not do that and have more tragedies than otherwise. I don't know what the hang-up on that idea is, it's a fact. They will happen less often. Obviously the parents taking responsibility is also important, but we can address multiple concerns at once.zombie wrote:i like that we just had this whole discussion about parents taking responsibility... and now it's either do something about guns, or do nothing.Headhunter wrote:It's a choice of some change vs. no change.zombie wrote:it's still a way to avoid parental and local responsibility. but at least it's toward something that is designed to cause harm or death. regulate them. then restrict them. then ban them.... and then move onto the next thing that can be used to avoid personal responsibility.Headhunter wrote:Acting like death machines the can kill tons of people very quickly are irrelevant is a silly thing to do. we should probably bow to the gun control crowd, if only so that we can recognize that that won't end the talk of restricting things to curb some kind of violence or undesirable behavior.Headhunter wrote:Sad world we live in where the inconvenience of jumping through some extra hoops outweighs cutting down on preventable tragedies. i don't have to like it, but let's do it. let's regulate guns or restrict guns. whatever satisfies. then we can move on to the next thing that will cut down on tragedies.Headhunter wrote:Well, you can implement common sense reforms that will cut down on tragedies, or you can not do that and have more tragedies than otherwise. It's more like "we should probably do everything possible to stop preventable tragedies from happening". You say we shouldn't do anything about guns even though it would save lives, so how would you make up the deficit of lives you didn't save by not passing common sense gun reforms?zombie wrote:we should probably bow to the gun control crowd, if only so that we can recognize that that won't end the talk of restricting things to curb some kind of violence or undesirable behavior.Headhunter wrote:Sad world we live in where the inconvenience of jumping through some extra hoops outweighs cutting down on preventable tragedies. everyone's "common sense" is different. "everything possible", in regard to fire arms, would be banning their sale and legal possession.

Is that supposed to be bad, working to find solutions to cut down on tragedies? If there's something else you can do that cut the deaths down even further, that's even better. This is how problem solving works. It's a lot more productive than "nothing can be done so don't try".zombie wrote:i don't have to like it, but let's do it. let's regulate guns or restrict guns. whatever satisfies. then we can move on to the next thing that will cut down on tragedies.Headhunter wrote:Well, you can implement common sense reforms that will cut down on tragedies, or you can not do that and have more tragedies than otherwise. it depends on your point of view. comic books were a dangerous influence on children. rock music needed to be regulated for our safety. now, it's video games. that will be the next thing after guns are handled.Headhunter wrote:Is that supposed to be bad, working to find solutions to cut down on tragedies? The "they want to take all our guns" straw man needs to die already. That bullshit straw man has been just used to keep the NRA machine rolling for years and you guys keep eating it up. Would love to see someone walk into a school and try to kill a bunch of people with a comic book or video game disc. it isn't comparable. has that kept people from looking to those as *the problem*? will it keep them from looking back that way, when there aren't mass shootings anymore?Headhunter wrote:Would love to see someone walk into a school and try to kill a bunch of people with a comic book or video game disc.
