I want to make a real effort to contribute more horror content to the site this year. Make it more about horror than sports and politics. Starting with poorly written reviews. This site needs work if we are ever going to get a sustainable base who's main focus is horror.

That was a post from one year ago today. I will try to do better with the poorly written horror reviews in 2020. And try to get the MOTM (Movie of the Month) thing going too.

I think movie of the month would be a lot easier to do than movie of the week.Tiggnutz wrote:That was a post from one year ago today. I will try to do better with the poorly written horror reviews in 2020. And try to get the MOTM (Movie of the Month) thing going too.

It’s hard as so many of us already talked through all the horror when we started up 16 years ago. But it is valid. There’s new stuff out we could chat through and reviews we could write. It would help if people try getting other horror fans to join too, as we have no publicity wing.

I need a site link to post on Twitter

See it that brings any new traffic
Re: January 22nd 2020
i'm hearing talk around that dropping a tv streaming season all at once is causing them to be just forgotten. people don't have a chance to sit with the show, so it may become a favorite. and i don't buy that. if you feel like the show is worth watching again, watch it again! continue to talk about it after it's release. movies can gain a following, with a single release. so too can seasons of television, dammit!

Re: January 22nd 2020
I think the main argument for that is that a weekly show gives people a week to talk about an episode before the new one comes out, whereas if the whole season comes out at once, everyone will watch it at their own pace, which makes it more difficult to discuss.zombie wrote:i'm hearing talk around that dropping a tv streaming season all at once is causing them to be just forgotten. people don't have a chance to sit with the show, so it may become a favorite. and i don't buy that. if you feel like the show is worth watching again, watch it again! continue to talk about it after it's release. movies can gain a following, with a single release. so too can seasons of television, dammit!

i understand that. but you don't have to release a film in 30 minute portions or hour portions for people to continue to talk about it, even if they watch it at their own pace. i think the same can happen with tv, if you feel like it's worth watching again, and getting the word out.Slaughterhouserock wrote:I think the main argument for that is that a weekly show gives people a week to talk about an episode before the new one comes out, whereas if the whole season comes out at once, everyone will watch it at their own pace, which makes it more difficult to discuss.zombie wrote:i'm hearing talk around that dropping a tv streaming season all at once is causing them to be just forgotten. people don't have a chance to sit with the show, so it may become a favorite. and i don't buy that. if you feel like the show is worth watching again, watch it again! continue to talk about it after it's release. movies can gain a following, with a single release. so too can seasons of television, dammit!

The socialization aspect of TV has been completely upended. They're movies now. You consume them in relatively few sittings, and experience everything all at once. When people talk TV now, they are recommending shows to each other the way people would with movies. In past years, they were your water cooler moments at work the same way sports are.

recommend and rewatch. it's the way of the future. i've never been one for the 'water cooler" thing anyways, personally.

Re: January 22nd 2020
I think this conversation is more a cover for people just wishing the world was what it used to be in a social sense. It's objectively a better thing to have as much optimization as possible, to watch things when you want to watch them and do things on your own time. The issue is we all, at the same time, became so well-adjusted to the routine nature of life, we do lose a social connection when that's gone (exception being live sports).

Sometimes I feel like I'm in an SNL sketch when I'm talking to friends or meeting anyone socially and TV comes up. Have you seen this, oh have you seen that, Netflix, Prime, Hulu, Apple, Disney...holy fuck. Everything is awesome and no two people have the same awesome things they watch. I really can't think of a better example of first world problems than the age of TV we live in. It's just not really TV, more at-home movies.

yeah, the opportunity for social interaction is still there. and the tv, overall, is better now than ever.
what awesome shows are you being recommended lately?

Finally (finally) tried the Popeye's spicy chicken sandwich last night. The sauce itself is the only thing that is spicy on it. The chicken isn't breaded with spicy breading or anything. I'm not even going to bother comparing it to Chick Fil A because nobody comes within a mile of their excellent quality, but it is in league with Wendy's.
The chicken itself is of much higher quality than Wendy's, so that's a huge point there. The spicy sauce is weird, but good. Just gonna have to ask for light sauce next time. It comes with pickles also, which doesn't work for this sandwich like it does for Chick Fil A. The main gripe is the bun is a bit too thick. I like a soft bun with not too much bread. This is the opposite, so Wendy's earns that point.
Final verdict, Chick Fil A is still the untouchable sandwich. I'm actually embarrassed for Popeye's starting that twitter beef. It's like grade school tee ball challenging the New York Yankees to a duel. At the end of the day, it's a solid alternate to Wendy's. I'm gonna go back and forth with them from now on until some day a Chick Fil A comes to town.

No question it's better. Most pre-late 90s TV is hard to watch today. They look like student films compared to the at-home movies they are today.zombie wrote:yeah, the opportunity for social interaction is still there. and the tv, overall, is better now than ever.

The Mandalorian, Fleabag, The Boys. I haven't seen most Amazon and Hulu stuff. I rely on word of mouth for pretty much everything except HBO. I'll give anything on HBO at least a try.
