If you take care of people, the economy should stabilize over time in theory. If you don’t take care of people, there is no economy. Keep the checks flowing in and worry about combating inflation later, that shouldn’t be a concern right now at all
I agree

But if you open that Pandora’s box, it’s going to be tough to put a stop on those checks whenever the government arbitrarily decides to open things up and the job market is still really bad.

But that’s way looking ahead. Those $1200s might be it.

We still don’t know enough about this nasty fucker of a virus yet to make those kinds of projections but I’d imagine it will be floating around for 2-3 years and hopefully not mutating.

The economic effects will last even longer.

18-24 months is the best estimate. You need 14 months just to trial a vaccine and prove it safe and effective.

You’re optimistic that the United States of Anti-Vaxxers will get everyone on board? Idk man. I hope you’re right and we never have to listen to an anti-vaxxers again.

As you alluded to there’s no telling if the vaccines being developed now will even be viable then. Just way too many unknowns right now. The two things we can be certain of are tens of thousands will die and the economy getting pounded.

And even that may be the “optimistic” scenario in some recent publications.

This is also going to have a crippling effect on the mental health of medical workers. Lot of people doing everything they possibly can who will have to wrestle with people dying they know they should have been able to save. They are main lining trauma every day they go to work.

And watching their friends and colleagues die as they lack required gear too. Preventable deaths if the government coordinated efforts to secure PPE, Ventilators and ICU beds

Some team will figure that virus out. It might be a yearly vaccine like flu but from what I'm reading it acts more like a super slow mutater and that could mean a one and done vaccine. What I worry about is that now we know bio warfare is the way to go an entire world economy destroyed in a matter of weeks. I don't believe for a second this came from people eating bats this was somebody's baby who got loose. And yes I am currently reading The Stand

It is a novel virus. By definition from animals. And is a “typical” Coronavirus. This isn’t sone conspiracy it’s a basic high-infection disease.

It’s unfortunate we’ll never have a good read on how things are progressing in China. Would be really fucking useful.

Trump should name a hospital in the U.S. after the man in China who discovered the virus and brought it to Chinese officials but forced him to be quiet about it, then later died from the virus he discovered.

Would be very cool. Big league. Believe me!
