It's a horrible choice, and I don't envy them for it. Especially since they do have serious mental problems with self-image, and surgery can only help so much.
No matter how much you hate LGBT people, they’re here. You can make them feel like shit and fight against their representation in movies/TV/games as much as you want. I’m not going to take that approach. We’re all fucked up in one way or another. We don’t need to deny each other’s humanity for all the things that are wrong with us.

And if therapy doesn't work, and surgery brings peace of mind? I don't see how that could ever be wrong if the problem literally can't be fixed.
