Re: May 12th 2020
Talking to a friend of mine who is actually knowledgeable in science. Asked about Jason's quote. Here's the result from the first line:
""If we quickly develop herd immunity, the virus will no longer exist."
This would be true to a degree, assuming this is one of those diseases you can only get once
Well, the idea behind it would be true. The virus would still stick around, but spreading and causing a pandemic would be pretty unlikely, considering most of the population wouldn't be able to get it (and in turn wouldn't be able to spread it)
....unfortunately, we don't know if this is one of those diseases. At least at the moment.
Some of its relatives can be gotten multiple times, so that's a fun thought.
and then, if its anything like the common cold (apparently some of which are corona viruses, just not this particular corona), it could end up with a buncha strains going around that don't give immunity to anything beyond their own strain once you catch one.
So that little section would be true assuming you can only get it once, and it doesn't spawn some new strains that you could theoretically catch later."
Section 1 confirmed.

I pull from an aggregate of multiple medical professionals and infectious disease experts before spewing shit. The information is out there and easy to find. The problem with a lot of this is there is too much political ideology involved than there is science.Jigsaw wrote:Talking to a friend of mine who is actually knowledgeable in science. there is going to be a lot of politics going on. but there will come a point that the risk to the economy and business, and even of supply and demand maybe will become a serious enough issue that it becomes the priority over the politics.Jason wrote:I pull from an aggregate of multiple medical professionals and infectious disease experts before spewing shit. If only that were the case. High profile people on the left are on record saying they were hoping for a crashing economy. California is trying to keep is locked down until September, apparently. They want the economy to stay at a halt until the election so they can start the "Orange Man Bad, he crash economy" nonsense.zombie wrote:there is going to be a lot of politics going on. but there will come a point that the risk to the economy and business, and even of supply and demand maybe will become a serious enough issue that it becomes the priority over the politics.Jason wrote:I pull from an aggregate of multiple medical professionals and infectious disease experts before spewing shit. There is no doubt in my mind that this guy understands far more about science than many people I know. I trust him. I will obviously listen to him. Step 1 in the pursuit of truth is to eliminate the injection of ideology in an argument. Whether left or right, if I feel off about an expert's intentions to inform the public in conjunction with actually providing knowledge on his expertise, I will not include that expert in the aggregate.Jigsaw wrote:There is no doubt in my mind that this guy understands far more about science than many people I know. Re: May 12th 2020
Being that the virus is relatively new, I am of the mindset that we need to flatten the curve, which we've done, quarantine the elderly and high-risk folks, and open the country back up. This is the safest path to herd immunity. If by some off chance the virus does come back, it will likely be a far weaker strain than it already is.Jigsaw wrote:How, pray tell, would we get herd immunity without a vaccine?
The fact that The WHO (WORLD... HEALTH... Organization) lied about this disease should allow everyone to realize the difference between the science and the ideology involved and how corrupt it is at the top. You can't be too careful where you pull information from. People will manipulate the science because of where they stand ideologically. Even the most knowledgeable scientists.
