I dont know how to run pedals through an fx loop. Im an embarassment ha. I will watch the video. I love Ola's videos. I've just always bought amps with killer overdrive, but started putting overdrive into the mix a few years ago its pretty cool how they can shape your sound.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:Hell yeah, that wasn't leaving my sightJmac Attack wrote:Do you still have that Mesa combo? I wanna get one someday. I want an Orange amp too.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:Also got notice that the Majesty guitar I ordered may be coming sooner than a month, so that's cool.
once I'm rewarmed up and practiced again, I'll be testing out how my Diezel V4 pedal sounds through the FX loop. Since watching the Will It Chug video on the V4 pedal, Ola mentioned he ran it through the FX loop on his amp, and I had this huge epiphany that I've been using pedals wrong for over twenty years

Re: May 16th 2020
I started out on a really really shit amp, that I'm pretty sure didn't have an FX loop, so from day one I was plugging in from the front. On later amps, I just assumed the FX loop was some sort of live hook up thing, but I don't exactly have a mentor that knows what they're doing as I go along, so that's how my assumption stayed this whole time lol.
I mentioned it to another guitar friend, and he too was clueless about the FX loop

I do 80% of my shows with just the wah. The other times I'm either plugged straight in, or I have an overdrive for shits n Giggs.

My first amp was a crappy Harmony amp. I would lie it on it's back and put a pillow over the speaker. When I cranked it, it would get a tiny bit of overdrive. My first really good amp was a Marshall JCM900 dual reverb 50 watt head I bought when I was 18. I loved that amp. I treated it like shit though.
My favorite amp I've owned is my current JCM2000 DSL 100 watt head. It's an older model. Late 90s. Man.....it has major mojo. I get people with Kempers and Helix amps asking me about the amp. I just tell them that you gotta really search for a good Marshall.
Oh....and I played a Mesa Triple rec a year or two ago. I finally figured out how to get a great tone out of it. The problem I was having was I used the same settings as on a Marshall. That's a big mistake. I'd buy one now at the right price.

My first was an Epi (I assume Epiphone, but I'm going on what the logo said on the speaker grill), and I also asume it was one that came with cheap packages parents would buy their kids that came with the cheap guitar and amp for like $100 at walmart.
The gain knob would give me distortion, but it wasn't good. Very nasally yet muddy at the same time. Gain had to be very low for clean, so I used a distortion switch on a morley wah that i used to have (my first).
I think it might've only been like 15 watts, if that. My first good amp was a Marshal MGFX, which yeah was solid state, but it actually sounded fuck'n good. Then I put the wrong cable in and blew it :/

Those MGs aren't bad at all. Very good for solid state.
It drives me insane when people get those guitar packages on the uber cheap. I can find a great small amp and decent guitar for $250. I get that they dont wanna waste money if the kid is going to lose interest. But dont let the equipment discourage them.

Yeah, it had a good selection of digital fx built in, good chorus/delay and flange. The distortion was pretty damn good.

It’s really fun and quite therapeutic. I have no illusions I’m anything but 2 pages into the kids beginner book but you gotta start somewhere right?DancesWithWerewolves wrote:Woot! There are songs with only two chords it. What I Got from Sublime, and that one song from the Doobie Brothers. The funky dixieland one.
