Re: 8/3/Twittle Dee Dee
Thankies. According to a self-publishing checklist, I still have a long way to go, but right now getting it professionally edited is a roadblock before continuing.Melz wrote:Hopefully you will hear from her soon, D!! *fingers crossed, and praying hard*DancesWithWerewolves wrote:Aye, got a message that my prospective editor is behind on previous work, so she hasn't been able to give me an estimate yet on cost. I mean, I don't wanna rush my book, I want it done right, so I'm not gonna rush her, but come Wednesday it'll be a week waiting on an estimate :/
And this person's cool, and local, so there's a local-support thing I'm trying to do too.

Will they do normal proof-reading type stuff, or give you general, professional advice on how to improve your work--or both? Are they giving you an estimate on THEIR cost to edit, or just your cost to publish? How do they determine how much what costs to publish? (sorry...I've done editing on a small scale before, so I find this very interesting. )DancesWithWerewolves wrote:Thankies. It depends on this editor. Most charge by the word, but she doesn't seem to charge that way, so it's up in the air. She's not publishing it though, she's copy-editing/proofreading for me.Melz wrote:Will they do normal proof-reading type stuff, or give you general, professional advice on how to improve your work--or both? Re: 8/3/Twittle Dee Dee
As far as actual publishing costs go, as long as I avoid a vanity press, it won't cost anything. I'm probably going to go through Barnes & Noble first, I've got an account set up already, so it's just waiting for me to upload, and it'll be basically print on demand.
However, after paying for editing, I'll still have to pay for the Copyright, the ISBD #'s, and the marketing, which will all vary (well, last I checked, getting the copyright official is like $45)

Well, I'm hoping it won't be too terribly expensive for you, but the end result--(you becoming the next Stephen King) will be well worth every penny! Cannot wait to see how this all turns out for you, D!!! I'm excited!!

Re: 8/3/Twittle Dee Dee
Sweet, the editor got back to me about the sample, and praised how I was far more coherent than other stuff she edits lol, so I made it really easy for her. She wants me to look over her edits on the sample before she can give an estimate, but this is a good sign.

Hell, yeah! Can't wait to hear what you think about her edits.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:Sweet, the editor got back to me about the sample, and praised how I was far more coherent than other stuff she edits lol, so I made it really easy for her. She marked it up pretty good with all her suggestions, so it's not like I walked away scott free I'll most likely make most of the suggestions. Now I just gotta wait for her to determine the price.
Re: 8/3/Twittle Dee Dee
Do you have any expectations on what it might be?

Re: 8/3/Twittle Dee Dee
I've seen estimates for my wordcount around 1700. But I have no idea what her rate exactly is yet.

Where did Dae go, I wonder?
On another note, I'm so happy I don't have to work tomorrow! (not that I'm happy about the hurricane, mind you...but...you know... )

Wow!! Kinda pricey there, huh? lol I guess if you take off, though, it's all good. 1,700 would be like chump change.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:I've seen estimates for my wordcount around 1700. But I have no idea what her rate exactly is yet.

It’s a lovely thing for fillet and similar cuts where the inside is still basically cold. Very nice in some meats. Awful in things like rump and sirloin.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:Haven't heard Blue regarding steak before. Go on...showa58taro wrote:I had steak a lot this trip to Sweden. Very tasty. Oil it both sides. Grill it for a minute each side.
