What implications homey
maybe implication was the wrong word, but whatever. they seemed a little contradictory about their thoughts on candyman. it was great for african americans and then they said it was going back to harmful tropes.
and they talked about how it was a good thing that white audience members were cheering for the black protagonist in get out. then, saying that if they enjoy black horror movie stories, fine... but it's not for them.
it seemed contradictory or sending mixed messages. but it was from different actors and filmmakers, but the director should have put it together better, in my opinion. make it clearer what they wanted to get across.
I need to watch it again honestly it's been awhile

I will never understand it when people put so much meaning into films. Can we not just watch a horror film and enjoy it for what it is? Does everything need to send a message or have some deeper meaning?

I know Romero gets alot of credit for casting Duane Jones as the lead in NOTLD but factually it was because he was the best actor who auditioned for the part. If anyone else would of been the better actor they would of gotten the part.

i think that there is a social commentary in a lot of horror films. it's fun to discuss and to think about.
but try not to make it a guide on how you should live your life, or act in a given situation. and also don't use it as a scapegoat for something you don't like that is happening. be adult enough to take it as fictional, even when or if it is commenting on something real.

tony todd mentioned that, in the film. that romero didn't write him as black. similar to how all the characters in alien were written as male. (i'm not sure i buy that for lambert, but yeah)

True about Alien. Originally, no women and no android.

The Romero series is overtly political though.

It is but only because of low funding and a black guy being the best actor available. I would not want it any other way but it is all because of chance

so why did those words come out of his mouth? i want to give him the benefit of the doubt on this, more than anything.
What words? I'm struggling to keep up with the lunacy in this thread...
he directly spoke on video about disinfectants injected into the body, seems interesting to him. go watch the video that head posted and please explain it to me?
He's literally asking the doctor questions based on things they were looking into, and finishing off with "is there any way we can do
something like that"? Nowhere did I hear him suggest anybody put bleach, Ajax or Lysol into their bodies. You fucking lunatics. :p
Trump Derangement Syndrome in full swing this morning.
The lack of understanding similes and metaphors by the public over the last few years is pretty damn sad and dismal. This is a massive overreaction and taking him literally when he suggests exactly what you underlined (which uses "like" or "as", meaning something that is like, or, similar, but not exactly that), meaning sometime like that that we can safely put into our bodies (because he didn't suggest injesting those things specifically, just pondering stuff that can do the job those can but you know...actually safely injest). I usually don't hope up and defend Trump, but I thought it was pretty damn obvious what he was saying.
Then he had to "clarify" by saying it was sarcasm...ugh. It wasn't sarcasm.

I think Slaughter made me lose my shit. I didn't see him buying into any of that. He clarified his point, and I know the whole XJ thing, but fuck. I apologize, I shouldn't have jerked in the chat.

This is true. However, not many directors would have cast the best available actor back then if it was a black dude. Not necessarily because all of them were racist, but because they were afraid to take that risk. Romero did it and it should be something he is praised and remembered for. And the black dude was the hero, so to speak. It just didn't happen much back then.

Got an email from my car insurance saying they're going to reimburse me 20% of this month's payment. It's not much, but I'll take it.
