5 stars. This is one of those times when being inarticulate bugs the hell out of me because it was so good. Best thing I've seen since Fury Road.
Damn. That is high praise. Annoyed as I won't get to see it. Film is ruined for me. Annoying.
Ruined?
Went to the cinema but it was a massive failure. Watched the first 15 minutes out of focus. Rewatched the same 15 in focus, then the next 10-15 with constant pauses and restarts. Then it went black and I went home. Not likely to see it any time soon.

Jesus. Sucks, Seb. Thought perhaps an ending was spoiled as opposed to incompetence from theater employees. Was the projection screen run by apes?

Probably. They were definitely monkeying around. Just means I was completely taken out of the cinematic experience. Hard to go and watch that opening for a third time and not be bugged by it. So will wait till after the cinematic release I think. Was excited too.

Baby Driver was a lot of fun. Most fun time I've had at the movies in a while. Felt equal parts Tarantino and Guy Ritchie. Great cast, writing and chase scenes.

Should have heeded Marco's warning. Just one unnecessary big ball of meh.

Life

Don't think it was properly marketed, at least what I saw, as I didn't get an overly horror vibe from the marketing campaign, but it definitely is one. I thought it was pretty good, nice to have another decent sci-fi spaceship horror flick in the vein of Alien, Event Horizon etc. as I was pretty letdown with Prometheus. And I liked the more simplistic approach to Calvin. Wouldn't buy it, but would watch again.

Dunkirk

See this shit in 70mm IMAX if you can, friends. My God, what a show. It takes all of two minutes for the movie to plunge into all-out terror, and that intensity is maintained until the very end. It's weird but I'm not sure I've seen a war movie nail the "holy fuck this shit is SCARY" aesthetic like this one. Usually it's gratuitous violence/gore or just a FUBAR environment like you see in Nam movies. There's neither over the top violence/gore nor any "machine breaks down, we break down" element. It's just a POV look at how fucking scary a battle where you're trapped and surrounded would be, with the threat of dive bombers, gun fire and torpedoes at absolutely any moment's notice. 70mm IMAX made me feel like I was in a virtual reality simulator.

Rating: A

I just now saw that this is PG-13... I mean I don't need too gratuitous/over the top violence, but it is a war movie.

It makes little difference really. Just no blood/gore, only one or two "fuck"s. Still quite violent and brutal.

Sodomaniac

A group of party going womanizers are picked off one by one by somebody wearing an oversized Ass mask who then proceeds to ass rape them to death.

Overall, the film is ok. With a film about people getting their asses ripped apart, it does get old kind of fast. Which is a shame, because this could've been way more fun than it actually ended up being. I mean, there are a few funny scenes when the killer begins to. . . Have their way with the victims, but it doesn't really live up to what you wanted from a film such as this. It also could've used some more gore, instead of zooming close up shots of man ass.

Spiderman Homecoming

Keaton lived up to the hype. Easily the best thing about a very enjoyable movie.

Manchester by the Sea

Why did this get nominated/win a bunch of awards? It was one big mundane ball of meh. And they built to some of the potential for Affleck's character's doom and gloom, but they never really tapped into it. Maybe the point was to be "nuanced" and him burying it in himself or some shit, but from what I heard and the awards I expecting them to really go for it at some point. Meh.

Looked like a dull Bostonian circle jerk. I got 15 minutes into it and moved on. My patience isn't what it used to be.

Smart man. I do enjoy the Bostionian accent, I think that suckers me in from time to time. "Fucking wicked retarded!"
