How? Denver broke any record any of them might have had. And two of those teams lost in the playoffs. One didn't even make the Super Bowl and the other put up 14 points against the Wild Card Giants.

Silly to suggest any of those were better than Denver's offense in 2013. The 1998 Denver offense was just as good or better than the 1998 Vikings offense.

Who cares about records? Scoring was a lot easier in 2013 than 2007, which was a lot easier than 1999 etc.

The shift in favor of offensive scoring happened in early-mid 2000s. And the Pats cheat, anyway. So I'm not giving them the time of day.

2004 was the big one, but it got easier every year after that. Introduction of spread, introduction of zone read, now we have introduction of Air Raid.

The Pats having Randy Moss with Brady basically was cheating, though.

They didn't play well...but they also took the lead on a long TD drive with just a few minutes left and would have gone 19-0 if Asante doesn't drop a pick a few plays later. Denver was done by halftime with their defense actually holding up well. New England's offense struggled, Denver's offense got pummeled. Context is important.

Nobody cares. Denver's bread and butter in 2013 were pick plays that could have been called OPI pretty much at any time at a ref's discretion.

No, it's not. And "doing whatever the fuck he wanted" is not an offensive system, does not describe any route combinations. They lived off pick plays that year. It's amazing for how much football you watch, how little you actually see . . .

Both Brady and Manning ran a variation of the Erhardt-Perkins for most of their careers so a lot of the offensive concepts are very similar. And yeah, both incorporated a ton of pick plays, especially that 2013 season for Peyton.

What I saw, Manning and Brady running very similar systems that seemed to be predicated on that quick post snap read of how defenses were handling that rub route. Literally, going to the line, making their reads and counts, audible to run if the numbers in the box were low, if not, it was likely going to be some variation of that rub route or bubble screen.

Obviously different personnel makes it look different and they are still looking for mismatches, and might make some different decisions with the ball accordingly, but it was damn similar.

In the Erhardt-Perkins system, one word from the QB would tell each receiver what route to run regardless of the formation they lined up in. Obviously this is more conducive to running up-tempo drives than the West Coast or Coryell systems, where everything is a specific play.

Interestingly, Reggie Wayne asked to be released from New England because he found the playbook too complicated. Peyton's version was a little more simplistic, he'd beat teams to death with the same 5-10 plays, really exploiting matchup advantages. It wasn't uncommon for the weak links in the secondary to give up 100-150 yards in coverage by themselves against Peyton, he was cold blooded when he found his guy to target. With Brady, it was a little more varied and complex and the personnel always a little more versatile. Another major difference was Brady's receivers often ran option routes. For the quick, shifty guys like Welker and Edelman, it's a matchup nightmare for slot corners or linebackers. With Peyton, he was going to throw to a spot so improvisation from receivers hurt the offense.

No coffee....well there is a Kuerig for black English teacher and decaf coffee. There looks to be a peephole adjacent to the top of our bed. We feel like Chevy Chase in funny farm.

Other than that, it's been fun. Bengals better win. Monday, we are going to the Cincinnati Zoo.
