I don't know, was it a similar coincidence when black militant groups supported the election of Obama?

I like to believe people with different reasons can be supportive of the same things, and some nefarious reasoning does not make the thing itself nefarious.
White supremacists are the number one domestic terrorist threat in the country.

You're just playing dumb. It's all about racial hatred and you know that.
I have no racial hatred in my own heart, yet I certainly see how southerners can be proud of their heritage and symbols of it. My family identifies as southern. I used to watch The Dukes of Hazzard as a child with them all the time. The confederate flag and a car named the General Lee could proudly be all over American network TV in the 70's and 80's, now it is a huge problem?

It is feigned outrage over bullshit.
Slavery and racial hatred are bullshit? Tell me all the great things about life for the average Southerner in 1855.
The average southerner in 1855 had more freedom over their lives than the average person has now.
Yes, the freedom to live in destitute conditions with no hope of social mobility, which continued for the majority of the South for generations. The only consolation was you were a higher class than blacks, who they were institutionally and culturally trained to hate by landowning elites.

If your only standard of decency is some bullshit abstract idea of what "freedom" constitutes, your best fit is probably Somalia. All the "freedom" you could ask for.

Who gets to decide what a flag represents? You or the person displaying it with pride and not an ounce of hatred in their heart?

Are you proud of the US Flag? Or do you dismiss it as a symbol of hatred because of wars, internment, segregation, etc.

The C.S.A. was founded to keep people in chains. The U.S.A. was founded for the pursuit of political freedom. False equivalence.

And whoever understands the history gets to decide, because they have the knowledge. So no, the person who is wrong about what the flag represents has every right to have their perceptions corrected by people who do understand it. I don't care how passionate they are about it.

And no, the Civil War had nothing to do with states' rights. Quite the opposite actually.

Do you decide this or do the individuals displaying it get to decide it?

Was there a lot of new Information about the Confederate flag and the civil war discovered since The Dukes of Hazzard was airing on network TV?

It is already decided regardless of what I think. Who cares how they feel when they're wrong?

There is always new information, all the time. That's how that stuff works...

Oh ok. Maybe they will discover something else new before they destroy all of the monuments Americans proudly built and respected.

Tributes to traitors who bravely sought to enslave blacks, you mean?

Do you think a statue meant to glorify the military successes of Hitler's Nazi Germany in Berlin or Munich would be appropriate? Or is there an underlying thing there that makes it touchy?

Sure. Hopefully we can make sure no one makes any tributes to FDR while we are at it because of when he rounded up Japanese-americans and put them into concentration camps.

You are equating Robert E Lee with Hitler now?

I did not say it was a statue of Hitler. I said it was a statue meant to glorify the military successes of his Nazi Germany. Let's say it was one of his generals. Still cool?

I agree that Japanese internment needs more media attention and needs to be a constant reminder of how far we can slide morally as a country at the highest level. Something tells me you didn't invoke it for that reason though, more of a "whataboutism".

I take every opportunity to remind people the FDR's entire admin was about removing American rights in one way or another. He is the worst president ever, was a horrible human being, deserved being in a wheelchair, and if I could dig up his dead body and punch him in the balls, I would.

Of course the U.S. has been in the wrong at many points. We have a history spanning centuries. Here's the difference. The entirety of Nazi Germany's existence was a regime of evil, and so was the entirety of the Confederacy's existence. Not every Nazi living in Germany was bad, and not every person who fought for the Confederacy was bad. In fact, most were just normal people. But the causes they fought for were evil, and they don't deserve to have their accomplishments glorified because of that. I'm not interested in how you rank evil here, both governments were founded on the impassioned belief in minorities being brutally repressed.

I find his legacy pretty mixed and easy to poke holes in, but outside of Lincoln who had a tougher hand than FDR? Two most significant events in the world in the 20th century during your presidency.
