Taking the day off from the world and watching some old NWA/WCW Starrcades.
That sounds de-lish.
So funny how different it was. Brian Pillman playing a high flyer bodyslamming Abdullah the Butcher. Rick Steiner giving Vader an overhead Belly to Belly like 2 minutes in to a match, and it was like no big deal.

NWA shout out got me in the mood to revisit the Steamboat/Flair series.

How on Earth does that happen?
I've asked myself this question many times. Can't figure it out. My mom's a Steelers fan. Sundays were interesting back in the day.

I feel like Steamboat should get more love. If you take his Flair and Savage Matches, they are pretty much wrestling clinics for that time. Wish he had a heel turn at some point.

I thought it was a shame Steamboat left the WWF in the early 1990s as I think he would have been well positioned to take advantage of some of the roster turnover with so many 80s stars leaving. Feel like we were robbed of matches with guys like Hart and HBK. Possibly a heel turn as The Dragon as well.
Then again, maybe Vince just never viewed him as a star.

The canteen actually did American Turkey with trimmings. Like a lot of it but your stuffing is weird.

Vince thought he lacked personality. Jim Cornette was around in creative at one point and was annoyed Steamboat insisted on having his family around his character.

No heel and no good on the mic/promos. Supreme wrestling ability only gets you so far.

Yeah the promo before the Flair match I posted is a good example of that. Cringe-worthy really.
Sometimes you can get by with your personality being that you have no personality. i.e. Benoit

And it took forever for him to rise to the top and I still don't understand it (horrific hindsight be damned). Beating the H's at WM20, gtfo.

That he and Eddie both got their first and only title reigns at WM20 feels like such a "let's get these lifetime achievement awards out of the way" move looking back. Eddie was awesome all-around, but didn't really fit the champion profile. He was better as the thorn in the side than king of the mountain.

I don't get it either. I can stomach it, but it tastes like pine and gets all mushy.

Enh, not at Mania. I think both were worthy of a reign, however.
