I'll give you Rebecca de Mornay, and that's it.
And even then, she's really only hotter (much hotter, like worlds apart hotter). Shelly's version is a much stronger psychological study of a victim of abuse. As a kid I used to think she was bad, but as an adult, I see the reason she sounds unconvincing in many scenes is because she's lying to herself as well as other people...and she's not that good at it, and the viewer gets to sense something's off. She looks strung out from the get go.

I really don't think most purists would've had this amount of hate towards' Kubrick's version is King didn't have a hissy fit gut reaction (after not being allowed on set or write the screenplay himself even though that wasn't part of the deal, so he went into production with a sour point of view already). Want to know how his ideas would look on film? Watch the implausibly shitty 97 miniseries. It hits themes King cried about not being included, yet it's incredly bad melodrama with a cheesy redemption ending, not remotely frightening (I'm not talking jump scare frightening, I'm talking about atmosphere). How could they actually shoot in the Stanley Hotel, King's inspiration in the first place...and still not have a shred of creepy atmosphere? Fucking Ghosthunters shot specials at the Stanley Hotel that gave off spookier vibes. Yeah, it's made for tv, but it's still possible (look at how well Hooper's Salem's Lot holds up). I'd say it's Mick Garris' biggest fuck up, but along came Desperation years later...
My biggest issue with it is Kubrick's style, which is too surreal for my taste. Aside from the first half of Full Metal Jacket and the ape sequence in 2001, I'm not a fan.

That's cool.

Just got out of 3 From Hell. I don't have a review yet, but I have a little off topic story.

I was hoping for a poster, but they were handing out bumper stickers instead. Pretty cool, it says "I survived 3 From Hell". After the movie, I had to wizz so I set my stuff down right outside the bathroom. Put the sticker under the popcorn box, come out 30-45 seconds later and some fuckhead swiped it. Looked around, nobody in sight. One of the employees was standing close by and saw nobody take it. Fucking enraging. People are scum.

A very lucky soul. Not a wise move to steal something from me right after I got out of a brutal Rob Zombie movie. :)

You know, I've grown more and more pissy with people over the last few years. Less patience, get annoyed easier. It bugs me, not because of them, but because of me. I prefer to see the good in people even when they tick me off here and there and I get mad at myself for getting annoyed with others, but this kind of shit puts me over the edge. I hate to sound like Mr. Tough Guy here, but if I caught him doing it, I might've dragged his ass out of the theater and shitkicked him. Do not steal other people's shit. I paid good money to see this movie and now a unique piece of it was stolen from me.

I feel like Vincent in Pulp Fiction when that dickless piece of shit keyed his car. :p
"It would've been worth him doing it, just so I could've caught him doing it."

I take it back, if I caught him doing it, I wouldn't have been as enraged because he didn't get away. I would've taken it back and verbally shamed the fuckwad all the way to the exit.

Hard to say, I don't really love this generation of actors so much. Johnny Depp has kind of already done it in real life, though. :p

Kevin Bacon maybe?

It was indoors. Just right outside the bathroom. It was either that, set it down somewhere in the piss stained bathroom, or fold it and put it in my pocket. Would prefer a prestine item, so I set it right outside. A common spot that people set their things on when they go into the bathroom.
