I know Foo's argument that I could agree with was that is was the "Perfect Slasher", meaning it checks all the boxes of what one would like/expect in a prototype slasher, but not necessarily that it's the greatest ever.
a perfect encapsulation of slasher movie tropes rather than the perfect slasher, i can get more behind.
Is there such a thing as the perfect slasher film?
We just established, it is F13 Part 4!
As I just told Z, in my opinion such a film cannot exist because everyone will not agree.
Is Part 4 missing a trope or element in which you love from a slasher?
It's the best F13 sequel but it's missing the one thing I love most about a Slasher film. The mystery of figuring out who is the killer. I love Jason Voorhees, he's my favorite of the 80's horror movie monsters. But this film is not even in my top 5 slashers because of that alone. The original F13 kept the mystery up until the final act and did it in a great way. I have always enjoyed the mystery and sadly so many films give it away too early.

But as I said earlier, it's subjective. Everyone's taste in films are different.
Fair enough, if the mystery and whodonit is a requirement for you, a sequel likely ain't gonna fit that bill.

the mystery element is more a holdover from giallo than a necessary part of a slasher. but it is fun to go along for the ride, when it's done well.

Why would giallo get the credit for that? Hitchcock and countless others did it better before.

because those others you speak of, don't have a neat subgenre tag to place them into neatly. of course!

While giallo does involve murder/mystery, it's mostly defined by its stylized nature.

I'm not a big fan of the Scream films. I enjoyed the first one and the most recent one managed to keep my attention but my biggest gripe about that franchise is how many Ghostface copy cat killers do we need before it becomes redundant. I like Neve Campbell, I've met her twice. She is a really cool person but I never liked the Sidney character. The first film was good and the second one was decent but after that they should have left it alone.

scream 4 is my second favorite of that series. :P but urban legend doesn't get enough mention outside of just being considered a ripoff. so nice and again, interesting.

I'd have to agree the Scream scripts have gotten really lame with "And yet another one is copying Ghostface with no grand reason to commit salacious murder".

it has kind of become a mess and casting issues has thrown it into a tailspin. but maybe the next one will put it back on course, even if the story of the last two films is going to be left unresolved.

So we are coming up on the 20th Anniversary of HMF. I want to say it was started in November of 2004.

It's crazy how long some of us have known each other (online). I joined HMF in March of 2005. I do recall seeing the discussions on the IMDB FvJ message board regarding setting up the website and such in November of 04. But didn't join until later. Anyway, lots of memories and made some friends that I still speak with to this day.

it would be cool to set something up to celebrate. i don't know what that would look like except maybe a group watch of fvsj or something, if we can manage it. but i don't know. still cool that some of us have stuck together for so long. :)

I agree we should attempt to set up a celebration of some kind. A group watch would be cool, I'm sure there are other ideas/options others might come up with. I have none to offer at the moment. But I'll brainstorm on it.
