Lawrence Taylor was a little bigger than Miller is today. Lineman then were a good bit smaller than today. Taylor still would have been wiped out had he played inside other than as a novelty.

Reggie White enjoyed a physical mismatch over opposing lineman because he was bigger and stronger than opposing lineman of that era, in addition to being quick.

They are equally great, but with different attributes. Good luck stopping LT with a little space and good luck stopping Reggie in a phone booth.

Nothing incorrect here. I just think even L.T. was certainly capable of not just performing, but performing exceptionally on the interior d-line. My only question is heavy work loads = more cardio burned. He'd actually have to be on cocaine during the games for this scenario.

I think you have to consider rules of that time and how it impacted game strategy, as well. Would you want LT caught in the middle of all the piles of the 80s? How might that impact his athleticism having guards and centers constantly cut blocking him, crack backing, and diving into him late? The physicality of his division and the interior running of that era looks nothing like today.

LT was great. One of the things that made him great was his combination of size and athleticism. He was not that much smaller than pass rushing DTs. That being said, he was still small enough that it would have to be a situational thing.

At that time, if he could have played inside more regularly, he would have. I think that is the most compelling argument as teams prioritized inside running on 1st and 2 down then, and he would have moved inside more if he was a better matchup than others.

Game was different. Consider Randy White shifting from DT to MLB to DT. Would never happen today.
