Let us not go liberal-batshit-crazy. JASON, may not be aware of it, and it being the deadliest in Cali history etc. Plenty are aware, Jason might be uninitiated, but we are initiated, aren't we Tigg?Tiggnutz wrote:That's just wild it's on every news station here are you all just so used to it that it's like rain in SeattleReign in Blood wrote:It is to an extent, but we've also had a lot in recent time, so unless you follow or know those being affected, it could pass you by. I am not sure how you keep politics out of it, when they literally refuse to adopt strategies to prevent such fires. Tree harvesting, controlled burns, etc. are viable options that they refuse. As demand for wood has increased, they have reduced logging by 75%.Tiggnutz wrote:No politics or anything but California has to do something to prepare for and try to lesson these fires. I live directly adjacent to a huge state park. Hunting deer (so they are not flying into our cars every damn day) and thinning the forest are vital parts of managing the area. Downed trees are removed by locals who want it for fire wood, brush is cut back, and it there are times when contracts are given to remove some of the mature trees.
It takes a lot to burn up a living tree, but all the dead brush and downed trees change all that. there are plenty of companies and residents who would love that wood.

Oh, I have been hearing of this one, it just got mixed up with the recent huge one down here, lumping it with it, and never saw "Butte County" mentioned in any of it.

The belief that all wildfires are bad and must be prevented is problematic in itself. Historically, wildfires were good for dry western forests and the government has artificially disrupted that. Now you get these uncontrollable monster fires.

California's four seasons:
Fire, Flood, Earthquake, and Riot.
They could improve three of them.

What caused this one?
Re: November 16th 2018
To be honest I think that that part of the country ecologically is supposed to burn every few years

Can't remember the last time I felt an earthquake.
Re: November 16th 2018
Flood. lol. Would have to get that mysterious thing they call "rain" to happen.

In these dry forests, you need some fire to clear out all the seedings and brush on the ground. They don't do anything at all with most of that land and ground fuels just continue to build. There are sites with foot tall layers of pine needles.Tiggnutz wrote:To be honest I think that that part of the country ecologically is supposed to burn every few years
Coastal forests are a different story and require different management strategies.

Watch after the fire. Next big rain will cause all sorts of mudslides. It is all part of the ecosystem there.Jason wrote:Flood. lol. Would have to get that mysterious thing they call "rain" to happen.

Also, that stuff can be burned for energy more cleanly than allowing it to slowly rot and then incinerate uncontrollably.Headhunter wrote:In these dry forests, you need some fire to clear out all the seedings and brush on the ground.
