The Monster Squad
Ginger Snaps
An American Werewolf in London
Dawn of the Dead
Return of the Living Dead

Re: November 3rd 2024
My rough draft has The Omen at 24 and Creepshow 2 at 25 and the rest just outside of it. But list is subject to change.zombie wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 11:37 pmand i counted wrong anyways. ginger snaps at 25. final decision! you can choose anything else you want for 24, but 25 is locked. sorry.Jason wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 11:34 pmI guess I edited in Evil Dead II when you weren't looking. Re: November 3rd 2024

23) The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
22) The Shining (1980)

20) Christine (1983)
19) The Blob (1988)

16) My Bloody Valentine (1981)
15) The Burning (1981)

Re: November 3rd 2024

i did expect the chain saw to make your ten though. that's interesting.

Re: November 3rd 2024
I'm sure you can probably guess at least the vast majority of my top ten. I don't think there are very many wild cards in there, maybe the order placement will be more surprising. But yeah, Basket Case and Sleepaway Camp were both locks for the top 25.
If I had just made the list without actually rewatching TCSM for the challenge, I probably would have had it around the top ten, but I am feeling heavily fun and nostalgic at the moment of making the list. So lots of that is incorporated into it. TCSM though, I do maintain is really the ultimate definition of horror as it pertains to the genre.
Re: November 3rd 2024
A lot of the movies in the top 25-11 can be reordered + or - 1 or 2. The Burning and My Bloody Valentine are basically a coin flip.
Re: November 3rd 2024
yeah, i probably could if i put my mind on it. but i want to see it rather than just speculating over it.Jason wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 11:50 pmI'm sure you can probably guess at least the vast majority of my top ten. so tcsm is like the "perfect" horror movie, in the foo sense of the word? nice.
Re: November 3rd 2024
the burning is something i've cooled off on recently. i'm not sure why. maybe it will reclaim it's former glory over time. i don't know.

That might have planted the seed in my line of thinking regarding that movie. It's always been among the top of my lists, and if a movie is going to be absolutely brutal for the sake of being brutal, it should be as realistic and terrifying as possible. Could be why I didn't totally love the Terrifier flicks. They were kinda silly and stupid fun. Which is nice, but it was a little overly brutal for its silliness. lol.

well no. i'm borrowing his terminology a bit from how he held final chapter as the perfect encapsulation of slasher elements.Jason wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 11:57 pmIs that what Foo said about it?zombie wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 11:55 pmyeah, i probably could if i put my mind on it. but i want to see it rather than just speculating over it.Jason wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 11:50 pmI'm sure you can probably guess at least the vast majority of my top ten. Re: November 3rd 2024
now that we've seen your list, you should just post it up and decide whether or not to change the 24 and 25 later.

very 70s and 80s heavy. mostly everyone else has a krampus or a rec or a descent. what is yours gonna be?
