the 1980's was the golden age of horror films IMO.
Honorable mention to the 1970's, it also had some great films. The early 90's stuff was good but things began downgrading around 94/95 imo.
The 00's sucked mostly due to remake fever and the 2010's were just blah minus a few decent films.
aside from the 1980s absolutely being the best, this has not been my experience with horror.
Care to elaborate a bit on this?
the 90s might be second worst after the 40s,
This. 100% this.
I've seen so many horror fans say that the 90's was the weakest decade of horror, and I'm sitting here like "How many horror films from the 40's have you seen brah? do you even lift?"
The 1940's is 100% the weakest decade of horror, and this is an opinion I'm pretty firmly set it. That's not to say there aren't great movies - I Walked with a Zombie, The Body Snatcher, and Bedlam are stellar - but overall, it's a very weak decade.

Ginger Snaps, May and the Descent probably?
Ginger Snaps and The Descent were good. The latter is on my top 10 list.
What I was saying is overall the 90's and beyond don't compare to the 80's.
I loved Ginger Snaps. I never saw May and I've watched the Descent more than once and I can't bring myself to understand the hype. I will most likely give it yet another go at some point, though.
i thought i told you to face the goddamn wall!
.,.. why don't you give may a watch?
Just never ended up coming across the movie to buy and never got around to seeing it. I don't think I know anything about it.

the 90's, 00's and 10's all had their hits and misses but some of the films over the last decade. idk, maybe the quality or overuse of CGI just didn't set well with me. I hate CGI blood and CGI fire, it looks too damn fake and cheap.

I think it's largely a case-by-case basis. Personally-speaking, I loved Last Night in Soho, though I know that the effects weren't for everyone. You go a more practical route like Malignant, and people still aren't happy.

Whoa there, Nelly.
I'll give you that Die Augen der Mumie Ma (The Eyes of the Mummy) is exceptionally weak, and marketed to the wrong audience, and I'll also give you that Malombra is largely non-sensical, and lastly, I'll give you that aside from historical reasons, Pikovaya dama (The Queen of Spades) isn't that interesting.
That said, Der Student von Prag (The Student of Prague) is a classic of the genre (widely considered the first full-length horror film), The Avenging Conscience: or, ‘Thou Shalt Not Kill’ has some strong elements, and Unheimliche Geschichten (Eerie Tales) is the first anthology horror film in the genre (beating out 1945's Dead of Night by 26 years).
It was a largely formative decade, and led into perhaps one of the most crucial decades for the genre as a whole.

yeah, val lewton did the best for horror in the 40s. i think the wolfman is worth the mention too... but the quality stuff barely breaks ten films for the decade. if even that. the 90s stomps all over that.

I don't even see it as a quantity thing. I look at it more as what decade advances the genre, or at least tries something new.
You pick and watch ten random horror movies from the 1940's, and I gurantee you that at least eight of them could have been made in the 1930's. Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does show a lack of growth (which is understandable, given WWII and all that).

Sure, but there are what, maybe 1450 horror films from the 1980's, and only around 165 or so from the 1940's, so there's going to be more good horror movies from the 1990's than even were horror films from the 1940's.
I'm just saying there needs be be a ratio to make this more fair, but I'm also not a math guy, so I can't do it.
