Seven Stages to Achieve Eternal Bliss By Passing Through the Gateway Chosen By the Holy Storsh. Comedy about a suicide cult. An odd one, but worth a watch.

The Invisible Man. I can not accurately express my frustration with this film. It was just absolutely infuriating to watch. It must just be me considering I've heard nothing but praise for it, but damn, that was painful.

Butt Boy is a film about a man whose ass is a black hole which he uses to "eat" various things, including animals and kids. That's how the film starts. It doesn't get weird until the end. I highly recommend watching this. It's been awhile since I've seen something this weird that was somehow still a good film.

One Dark Night. Zombies via telekenesis that are totally just mannequins on roller skates being rolled at people. They just don't make 'em like this anymore. Worth it just for the last twenty minutes or so.

I wish I liked that one more. Love the setting, and like you said, the finale is on point, but Adam West was used entirely to attract viewers and overall, I just felt it dragged.

As for myself, just finished I Don't Want to Be Born/Sharon's Baby/The Devil Within Her (1975).

It's not great. Unintentionally sort of funny at times, and the plot's moderately muddled. Still an okay time, and while not a highlight of British cinema, I could imagine seeing it a third time.

A Serious Man

Never got excited to get around to this one, but I thought fuck it and put it on tonight (on Netflix). Was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it. Smart dark comedy with one of the better endings I’ve seen in a long time. Typical Coen Bros. with themes on themes on themes, but I’d probably best describe it as “Judaism in a nutshell”. Bit of a hidden gem.

The Neon Demon. Bunch of artsy bullshit for an hour and a half, then twenty minutes of horror. What a waste of time.

The Vast of Night. Interesting film. Nice camerawork, great chemistry between the main characters, with enough dialogue to make Kevin Smith blush. Definitely worth a watch.

They Reach. Demon possession film set in 1979, with lots of references to horror of the 70's and 80's. I thought it would be garbage, but it wasn't bad. The ending was crap, though.

First instinct: this is my favorite Spike Lee movie and IMO his best since Malcolm X. There’s a lot to absorb and it’s all built around the emotional trauma of the Vietnam War on both sides. Powerful performances, especially from Delroy Lindo who just crushed it and absolutely deserves Best Actor consideration. Very indebted to other Vietnam movies, and even more so The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, while still delivering the familiar Spike Lee themes.

Outside of "best since Malcom X", I definitely agree (I really love 25th Hour). I even tweeted about Delroy Lindo getting an Oscar campaign going too. Not sure whether I liked it more than Blackkklansman, but I'll see how it settles down the line.

Also giving it an A grade.

I was wondering why the fuck the user scores were so low on this, then I saw the Black Lives Matters bit at the end and went "oh, that explains the haters, and no wonder their reviews don't make sense".

Mope. A docu-drama about the porno samurai killer. Worth a watch if you're into that sort of thing.
