Love Mel but lol @ the defense for him. Guy has always been a bigoted nutjob and a creep with women, we need not sugarcoat it by calling it religious beliefs.

cause he was in consideration, (maybe even the top choice, if he hadn't hedged) and it would be something different for him. it would be cool to see what he does with it.

you can separate him as a filmmaker / actor, and as a person.

We can also be honest about what has made him so undesirable instead of dishonestly presenting it as some persecution of his religious beliefs. Right?

For that matter, there was nothing unfair about the way Mel was treated. People don't have to work with someone they find distasteful. You wanna blame anyone for Mel's career tanking? It's 100% Mel's fault. Any other stance is just weird.

I too have said some shit in tense situations. They didn't include threats to women and rants about how horrible Jews are. He's a piece of shit. It's fine, but call it what it is.

He even got the benefit of being a comeback story last year when he wasn't coming back from anything except being an awful person. Wow, so unfair!

Ok, I just wasn't sure how passionate he was about the source material.

Foo was the one who brought up "religious views".

That's fine. I hope he keeps working. But he deserves less than zero sympathy.

Which religious views does telling a woman she'll get raped by a "pack of niggers" and that it would be her fault reflect?

It is tabloid bullshit. He talked shit to an ex who was recording the conversation to blackmail him.

There is no crime there. Mel has long been clear he does not approve of homosexuality and also seems to have a problem with his loved ones dating within the black community. So what?

To what extent can we destroy a man's character over a private phone call?

When I started seeing my girlfriend, my grandmother asked me if she was white. I laughed and told her she was not. So what? People grew up in a different era in different locations. There are PLENTY of older black folks who do not care for their black children and grandchildren to be lusting after white women. Who cares? It is a personal choice.

So people should be forced to work with him because he didn't commit a crime? Really?

Take a step back and you'll see what a sham your argument is.

"You have to work with Mel Gibson! Your freedom of choice to not work with a bigot doesn't matter."

Why does it offend you that people chose not to associate themselves with a man like Mel?

Why is it not a personal choice for people to not want anything to do with a bigot who wishes rape on women?

Why do you hate personal responsibility so much, Foo? HE destroyed himself, not the media. Why you're so hurt by the idea that people can be held accountable for having disgusting beliefs is beyond me. Why is Mel Gibson entitled to that unique privilege?

For reference, every one of these Charlottesville losers deserve to lose their jobs if spotted by their employers. I know conservatives don't understand the concept of free speech constitutionally at all, but it doesn't protect you from consequences in the private sector. Don't be mad people chose not to work with a POS, be mad at the POS for publicly exposing what a POS he is. That's his fault.

Just saying that those people would definitely feel different if their worst moments were secretly recorded and released to the world.

There needs to be context in how information was retrieved.

Would you stop eating at a restaurant you loved because a fired disgruntled employee was talking shit about how unsafe the food was? Or would you apply context?

Who cares what they would feel? We're discussing Mel Gibson's exploits, not their hypothetical ones.

Why should people have been forced to work with Mel Gibson if they didn't want to due to his own actions? Why does he deserve special privileges?
