Still at work, waiting for a load. Will do mini review now. Some spoilers ahead...

As the movie started I wondered how they would implement Chucky into modern society. Talking dolls are hardly sought after now. But it's essentially the doll form of Alexa or Siri or whatever. So I guess that works. Turns your TV on and talks to you and shit. Some disgruntled Vietnamese dude took off safety features on one doll in the factory. So there's your Chucky.

Some highs, watching Chucky learn violence was kinda neat. TCM 2 nod was fun. Mark Hamill was a fairly convincing Chucky voice.

Some lows, Awkward Aubrey Plaza plays Awkward Aubrey Plaza. I was thoroughly not convinced she was a mother at all. Didn't help that her character wasn't even likeable. The acting overall was poor, the humor was too forced and fell short 95% of the time. And they just couldn't resist throwing shade at white dudes when the first dead body was discovered. Lol. I will say, I genuinely appreciate these poor ass attempts at remakes because my God it makes me appreciate the ever loving fuck out of the OGs. I have a massive urge to watch the original now.

Mediocre/10.

That doesn't justify anything. Do you know how many shitty movies use footage from Night of the Living Dead that suck complete ass?

It's like in Juno where they watch Wizard Of Gore. Movie was a total garbage, but hey, they talked about HG Lewis for 2 minutes. Real big Pro there.

They could've just called the film Buddi and made the film it's own thing since it was kind of different compared to the original. Sure, people would've saw the similarities to Child's Play, but how often do we see other films come out and we compare how alike it is to this or that movie. Look at Never Cry Werewolf, it's basically Fright Night with a werewolf. People see the similarities and go on with their life and it's barely remembered. Could've done the same with this movie.
