So I did rewatch The Babadook. Was a little more patient with it and didn't hate it this time around. Still won't be watching again anytime soon. I understand the creature is essentially the embodiment of the mother's grief and depression over the loss of her husband, and then learning to live with it at the end because "you can't get rid of The Babadook". But it felt like it tried too hard to be weird at times and the entire goal of the movie was clearly subliminal messaging and not much more. If it didn't pass as a horror movie I might have enjoyed it more. The creature was just kinda goofy and that certainly didn't help the case. But I'm glad I gave it another chance.

Back on the shelf for another 10 years.

I don't believe there is a Babadook I think the mom is the Babadook (Joe Bob also thought this)

She is. The ending with her feeding the Babadook in the basement was basically a metaphor for having to live with and acknowledge your demon that will never go away without allowing it to manifest itself and take control over you.

Crazy how apparently there are fans that DIDN'T catch on to that. Joe sounded like he was alone in that belief and I'm like "uh...I thought that was the point?" lol.
