Deadpool & Wolverine

Post by Lazerus »

I am torn on rather or not I should even bother with this movie or at least seeing it at the theater.

I have been waiting to see Hugh Jackman's Wolverine don the yellow suit and mask for over 20 years now. Finally it's happening (mask included) and then there's the joy of seeing Hugh play the character once more (possibly for the last time). But then there's the fact this is a Deadpool movie. I did not like the Deadpool films. They were too campy and over the top for my taste, I'm just not the target audience for those type of films. I have never read the Deadpool comics but from my understanding Reynolds performance is very close to his comic book counterpart. The character is too much of a wise cracker with stupid jokes and the whole breaking the fourth wall thing is annoying, I hated it in She-Hulk too. Lastly there's Reynolds himself. Now some of his work I have liked but most of it I don't care for. He's not that great of an actor in my opinion.

Part of me wants to see it, just to see Wolverine in the suit and mask but the other part of me knows I will have to endure the other insufferable bs for over an hour. The premise of the movie itself doesn't much interest me because it's more of the multiverse BS Marvel has been shoving down our throats for years now. So, I don't know lol

I would like to get everyone's thoughts.

If you've seen it, what did you think?
Do you plan to see it? why or why not?

I like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine but I won’t touch this with a ten foot pole.

I can’t stand the bad sitcom humor of the MCU and I think it’s even worse when they try to be edgy and ironic and self-aware. Ryan Reynolds’ whole sassy man vibe makes me cringe.

I was pretty into Marvel for the first few movies and they just quickly jumped the shark for me. Really enjoyed Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk. Captain America and Thor were pretty good. Stopped caring after they started doing Guardians and sequels to their movies. Apart from being dragged to one or two Avengers or Thor sequels I haven't watched much Marvel since like 2010 or 2011. Too much to keep up with and not a lot of variety in the way the movies are made. And I've also criticized the humor of Marvel for years.

Logan was pretty decent except for the annoying screaming little girl and Deadpool just ain't my bag baby. Didn't care for the first one and definitely have zero interest in seeing the mashup.

Love Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds is perfectly playing who the character is. Deadpool without the wiseass shit talking and 4th wall breaking is like Batman without gadgets or Spider-Man without webbing. Hugh is a great Wolverine and he is great in Deadpool and Wolverine. Loved this film A+. Really try and avoid spoilers for maximum enjoyment

I don’t doubt he is perfect for the character. I just can’t stand the shtick. This movie feels like my worst nightmare for all the things I don’t like about the MCU. I haven’t watched anything since Endgame.

I’m glad others can enjoy it though

I didn't give a rebuttal he asked for everyone's opinion. Like what you like. I can see how it could be grating if that kind of humor isn't your thing.

The MCU started off great imo but once Disney purchased Marvel the tone of the films changed (mostly) and it's become too saturated with endless TV shows and movies. Also there's just too much humor in these films. It works for some but for others it just seems out of place. I prefer the DCEU Snyderverse films. It's a shame WBD gave it the axe.

The MCU started in 2008 with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. The movies were initially distributed by Paramount before Disney purchased Marvel.

so you only really like those first two movies? fair enough. i don't see much of a difference in the amount of humor in captain america first avenger and iron man. but that's just me.

That’s not what I was saying. I was just pointing out that the MCU began with those two films not when Disney purchased Marvel. I’m not sure where you got that impression from lol

My favorite MCU film is Infinity War but imo the best film in the franchise is The Winter Soldier.

Infinity War *would* be my favorite if they didn't bitch Hulk so hard. I'm cool with Thanos taking him out at the start, it's a great way to intro your villain, but everything with him after? Infuriates me 6 years later lol.

I don’t think it’s possible to do the ensemble superhero thing better than Infinity War. Not the last MCU movie I saw but it’s the last one I enjoyed and it might be my favorite.
