missed this last night. sorry.
but it doesn't feel like christmas yet. this kind of snow puts me in the mood for the thing or 30 days of night or fargo
Ancient Rome is the only point of this planets history that I actually give a shit about. So anything based in that time period and has a big budget production will get my attention quickly. Ridley Scott is also one of my favorite directors so there's that. But I agree this film should of been a loose sequel with little connection to the original. I would have preferred for him to focus on a different time period. Firstly a prequel set during Trajan's reign would have been awesome, or the time of Diocletian and the Thearchy or (as a third option) during the reign of Constantine.Headhunter wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 10:37 pm Have heard there is actually really strong buzz about the sequel.
As far as the need for a sequel goes…I’m not in the business of saying we should have less cool Ancient Rome shit. I wouldn’t care if there is zero connection to the original.
i am unfamiliar with these flicks.

those were best in the 80s and 90s. so good release dates. but i don't really get into that kind of thing a whole lot anymore. or maybe i've just been caught up in the wrong ones more recently.Tiggnutz wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 7:51 amSilly semi- raunchy comedieszombie wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 7:48 ami am unfamiliar with these flicks.
And I'm hearing it's pretty damn good, so of course WB is burying it.

i still have barbarella and beyond the valley of the dolls though.
I'm sure I will watch it at some point but it's not a priority atm.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 8:13 amAnd I'm hearing it's pretty damn good, so of course WB is burying it.
how well did his last couple of movies do? i'm hearing that it's being buried cause of bad box office in the past. but i haven't checked the returns myself.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 8:13 amAnd I'm hearing it's pretty damn good, so of course WB is burying it.
I think only Cry Macho bombed crically and commercially recently. The Mule had middling reviews but I recall it still doing well. He also films under budget and ahead of schedule, something he's notorious for.zombie wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 8:28 amhow well did his last couple of movies do? i'm hearing that it's being buried cause of bad box office in the past. but i haven't checked the returns myself.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 8:13 amAnd I'm hearing it's pretty damn good, so of course WB is burying it.
that's true enough. i guess i shouldn't be surprised.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 8:37 am But the new head of WB has been making many poor decisions with handling movies lately, so this isn't a surprise.
Like abandoning the Snyderverse.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 8:37 am But the new head of WB has been making many poor decisions with handling movies lately, so this isn't a surprise.
the snyderverse was suffering all on it's own. moving away from it was the best decision given the circumstances.Lazerus wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 9:40 amLike abandoning the Snyderverse.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 8:37 am But the new head of WB has been making many poor decisions with handling movies lately, so this isn't a surprise.
The Snyder DC films were much better than most of the shit Disney has pumped out for Marvel. Justice League failed because Snyder had to leave due to his daughter's tragic suicide. Unfortunately that prick Joss Whedon came in and made "his version" which was terrible. Then of course you had the internet crybabies who couldn't handle Snyder's dark/gritty realism that he brought to the films. Despite those few detractors it all started off good and could have succeeded had the executives as Wander Bros. Discovery managed the franchise better and not been in such a rush to compete with the MCU.zombie wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 9:44 amthe snyderverse was suffering all on it's own. moving away from it was the best decision given the circumstances.Lazerus wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 9:40 amLike abandoning the Snyderverse.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 8:37 am But the new head of WB has been making many poor decisions with handling movies lately, so this isn't a surprise.
if it was managed better from inception, including directors and writers and possibly projects chosen, then yeah. there's always a way to speculate that it could have been better. but it is what it is. but wonder woman and batman v. superman are shining aspects of that era.Lazerus wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 9:56 amThe Snyder DC films were much better than most of the shit Disney has pumped out for Marvel. Batman vs. Superman was my favorite of the films, Wonder Woman, Man of Steel, and Snyder's version of JL were also good imo.zombie wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 10:03 amif it was managed better from inception, including directors and writers and possibly projects chosen, then yeah. there's always a way to speculate that it could have been better. but it is what it is. but wonder woman and batman v. superman are shining aspects of that era.Lazerus wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 9:56 amThe Snyder DC films were much better than most of the shit Disney has pumped out for Marvel.
