Galaxy of Terror
The fact this is a Roger Corman movie makes me want to open up the Humanoids From the Deep steelbook that I have.

I'm not huge on sci-fi, so I'm not expecting much, but it's cool to see Robert Englund.

Feels a little like an Alien knockoff, 15 minutes in.
Re: 2024 October Challenge Discussion Thread
Sid Haig looks really really young in this. Like he's only 60.

Almost gave the 1990 It a B-, but I was still quite tickled with the Koontz joke getting killed by a dog, so I bumped it to a B
Re: 2024 October Challenge Discussion Thread
I'm aiming for a back to back double feature of Salem's Lot and IT on Wednesday. IT had such 5 star potential and the second half was just too flat.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:08 pm Almost gave the 1990 It a B-, but I was still quite tickled with the Koontz joke getting killed by a dog, so I bumped it to a B

Yeah that 2nd half always brings down the first half. Even in the new versions. I think it's the book that really got the trope going that "King can't write endings", or it's at least the flagship example. I like that King makes fun of himself about it though.Jason wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:10 pmI'm aiming for a back to back double feature of Salem's Lot and IT on Wednesday. I haven't read the book but I imagine the ending of the book was at least better than the ending of the movie.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:14 pmYeah that 2nd half always brings down the first half. Those unfamiliar with context: the guard Koontz is a jab at fellow "competition" author Dean Koontz, a known super duper dog lover.

How true to the book was the ending of the TV movie?DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:17 pm...eh....only by virtue of non-tv-movie fx?Jason wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:16 pmI haven't read the book but I imagine the ending of the book was at least better than the ending of the movie.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:14 pmYeah that 2nd half always brings down the first half. Re: 2024 October Challenge Discussion Thread
Holy shit. The death of a certain character in Galaxy of Terror just brought the entire movie up half a point. Damn, that was nuts.

Aka let's remake The Exorcist without calling it The Exorcist, directed by Homer from Near Dark.

Actually, I just got to that. I was actually referring to the glass in the vein, but that other kill was even crazier. Lmao. This movie is solid.

Re: 2024 October Challenge Discussion Thread
It's like a cliffnotes version - accurate but very condensed so a bunch is left out. There's no silly bike ride post climax though, like in the mini-series.Jason wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:19 pmHow true to the book was the ending of the TV movie?DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:17 pm...eh....only by virtue of non-tv-movie fx?Jason wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:16 pmI haven't read the book but I imagine the ending of the book was at least better than the ending of the movie.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:14 pmYeah that 2nd half always brings down the first half.
