Immaculate's act 1 is better, but I definitely think First Omen's following two acts overcame it. Weird how they came out like two weeks apart from each other, though I know Immaculate's script was circling around for many years, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little peaking-at-others-homework when it came to First Omen.

i've heard that immaculate was originally about high school girls not nuns but was changed along the way to better suit sydney sweeney. maybe true, maybe not.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 9:57 pmImmaculate's act 1 is better, but I definitely think First Omen's following two acts overcame it. Longleg's cinematography is awfully dark. Not Game Of Thrones' long night dark, but still keeps up the trend of modern cinematographers not giving a crap about contrast.

I actually checked to see if it was the same Cinematographer for The Eternals. It's not, but that's the similar dark photography vibe I'm getting.
Re: 2024 October Challenge Discussion Thread
That's among my biggest gripes of modern movies. Adds to the already cartoony feel of modern flicks. Doesn't feel as real when it's half a cartoon.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 10:12 pm Longleg's cinematography is awfully dark. Got super into the first two Wishmaster movies in the early-mid 2000s. Been 10 years or more since I last watched. Used to prefer part 2 a little.
Re: 2024 October Challenge Discussion Thread
Andrew Divoff carried these movies. Such a great Djinn.

And it's a legit gripe too. Not only do you have to fidget with TV setting to hopefully get a "best" version, but if you see it in theaters, you easily risk a screening that isn't using the brightest setting to save on power.Jason wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 10:14 pmThat's among my biggest gripes of modern movies. I can never find an audio balance either. New movies rely on jump scares and it feels like they intentionally have quiet dialog to make you crank the volume.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 10:33 pmAnd it's a legit gripe too. I do hope this role gets Cage back into Oscar talk, cause he's fucking killing it here.
Re: 2024 October Challenge Discussion Thread
I went in completely blind when it hit theaters a few months ago, had no idea who he was in the movie until a scene kinda late and I was like "Is that who Nicolas Cage is playing?"DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 10:53 pm I do hope this role gets Cage back into Oscar talk, cause he's fucking killing it here.
Lol. I was expecting to see him pop up as a regular dude at some point in the movie.

8.2 on Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies. Still prefer it over the original after all these years, but not by a hell of a lot.
Re: 2024 October Challenge Discussion Thread
i feel like it has to be more than jump scares because it's done that way in most movies and tv shows. not just with horror. i think the biggest gripe about it has been with christopher nolan and he hasn't done a horror yet. but he should.Jason wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 10:38 pmI can never find an audio balance either. Yet I never really notice it with Chris Nolan movies, but it's definitely beyond just jump scares/horror that are guilty of this.zombie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 7:11 ami feel like it has to be more than jump scares because it's done that way in most movies and tv shows. not just with horror. i think the biggest gripe about it has been with christopher nolan and he hasn't done a horror yet. but he should.Jason wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 10:38 pmI can never find an audio balance either. Here's a good video explaining why audio's fucked in new movies.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 7:50 amYet I never really notice it with Chris Nolan movies, but it's definitely beyond just jump scares/horror that are guilty of this.zombie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 7:11 ami feel like it has to be more than jump scares because it's done that way in most movies and tv shows. not just with horror. i think the biggest gripe about it has been with christopher nolan and he hasn't done a horror yet. but he should.Jason wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 10:38 pmI can never find an audio balance either.
