Re: 2024 October Challenge Discussion Thread
Had to suffer through The Lure (2015) so am finishing the night off with Friday the 13th Part VII.
I remember having a decent time with this one the last time I saw it (October 30th, 2020, for anyone interested ), so looking forward to seeing it again.

I don't see why it was made that way. Could've been in order and wouldn't have changed a damn thing.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 2:32 pm This probably has the best purpose of showing the chapters out of order in a long time. Not as good as Memento, but it's up there.

Except the complete misdirection of who's who, which provides a good commentary on who we give the benefit of the doubt. It allows the viewer to realize they were wrong in judging, rather than seeing the whole thing unfold as it was. It's like getting the details AFTER you gave judgement.Slaughterhouserock wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 3:29 pmI don't see why it was made that way. But you find out before the halfway mark anyway, so it's not like it's a huge twist or something. If it was in order, you'd find out maybe ten minutes earlier? Not worth jumbling shit up for that.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 3:37 pm Except the complete misdirection of who's who, which provides a good commentary on who we give the benefit of the doubt. I'll just disagree, I enjoyed having it unfold like that, and made it more engaging.Slaughterhouserock wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 3:46 pmBut you find out before the halfway mark anyway, so it's not like it's a huge twist or something. the lamp is a pretty decent flick so far. and a few years before the wishmaster.
and includes a bit of language i expected to be censored or cut around. even i can fall for the "studios are out to censor everything" crap, i guess.

Hmmmm. A lot of people bring up Jack Torrrance reading the Playgirl magazine when Ulman comes out to greet him after driving back up with his family, but I just noticed he casually dropped the magazine in the chair and walked away. Like it was casual reading the hotel had around. I'm thinking it reflects more on the magazines The Overlook keeps around, knocking what kind sex party shenanigans they have lol, rather than something Jack brought.

Been awhile, but I remember enjoying it. My copy is called the Outing, though. Dunno if it's just a title difference, or if the release has different edits.
