Hopefully Trump can save us from that. Everything is peachy, then he leaves and Americans die and we're staring WW3 in the face.

The reason I specifically pointed to the right is because Twitter is now a platform for the right. And they are platforming a lot of absolute garbage.

Lol but I really don’t think it’s a matter of opinion. What would be a matter of opinion is whether some of it is good. There should be zero dispute that a lot of trash is getting platformed. It’s just weird. Advertisers want nothing to do with it *shrugs*Jason wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 9:37 pmHeadhunter wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 9:36 pmThe reason I specifically pointed to the right is because Twitter is now a platform for the right. Forest for the trees, really. I don't think there is a good answer either way to how we want to regulate the internet. It's the internet. And who we choose to regulate it is not exempt from bias. One political shitpost from one side will be allowed while the other is banned. I feel like it's better under Elon than Dorsey for sure. There is more shitposting but at least it is generally much more fair.Headhunter wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 9:40 pmLol but I really don’t think it’s a matter of opinion. Twitter made more sense before random people (mostly Elon fanboys) were “verified” and had their insanity platformed. End the “pay to play” system and a lot of the problems would take care of themselves.Jason wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:12 pmForest for the trees, really. I don't have a strong opinion on verification. But the idea of verification itself is just kind of silly to me. It's the internet. You're gonna exempt everyone who isn't a celebrity or news station from a checkmark? I think Elon had such a low opinion of Twitter which is why he bought it in the first place.Headhunter wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:17 pm Twitter made more sense before random people (mostly Elon fanboys) were “verified” and had their insanity platformed. Re: Trumpster Fire 2025
It served a valid purpose of differentiating who people want to see (celebrities, news sources etc.) from internet randos. Now it is a free for all. The top replies to tweets used to be the tweets that got the most engagement (funniest mostly). Now the top replies are mostly “verified” bots just paraphrasing the original tweet. It’s absolute ass.Jason wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:30 pmI don't have a strong opinion on verification. But the idea of verification itself is just kind of silly to me. It's the internet. Re: Trumpster Fire 2025
Twitter is awful now. This is true. I used to at least promote my book stuff freely on there, and would get reactions, retweets, yada yada, now any post I make is buried in garbage. Whatever they did to their algorithms, it's terrible, actually worse than Facebook now in that regard.
Wish I could actually link stuff in Instagram otherwise I'd use that more.
But yeah, since Elon took over, Twitter is a massive shit show.

Re: Trumpster Fire 2025
Needs to be a combination of both, really. Trending should be genuinely whatever is trending as opposed to handpicked shit from the company, while also having easier access to celebrity and news following. Youtube is nice (and I actually go on there), but the bias in the recommended feed and lack of honesty in what is actually trending is annoying.Headhunter wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:38 pmIt served a valid purpose of differentiating who people want to see (celebrities, news sources etc.) from internet randos. I mean that’s exactly what it was. A lot of stuff *did* trend that was genuine and not from verified accounts. Everything that isn’t verified now gets buried while the unfunny Elon fanboy tweets get boosted. Twitter worked before Elon.Jason wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:52 pmNeeds to be a combination of both, really. Buy the blue check and talk about how badass Elon is and your engagement will go way up (but mostly from all the bots Elon promised to get rid of), otherwise yeah you’re fucked there now.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:46 pm Twitter is awful now. Re: Trumpster Fire 2025
The main problem of Twitter before Elon was the blatant censorship of tweets or accounts that leaned to the right. Tim Poole (who is on the left) had a very long discussion with Vijaya Gadde and Jack Dorsey on Rogan's podcast a few years back. When on the podcast, something she said she hasn't done or would ever do came to fruition not long after their discussion. So the real problem is how to eliminate implicit bias. I feel like it's less biased under Elon, but more people from the right are now happy to use it, so you're seeing an influx of more right-leaning accounts and posts. And yes, trolls.Headhunter wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:58 pmI mean that’s exactly what it was. A lot of stuff *did* trend that was genuine and not from verified accounts. Re: Trumpster Fire 2025
It isn’t just that more right wingers use it. Elon pretty obviously tweaked the algorithms to boost engagement on right wing content. He has censored posts critical of him and censored content at the behest of the Trump campaign (Ken Klippenstein’s suspension).Jason wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 11:10 pmThe main problem of Twitter before Elon was the blatant censorship of tweets or accounts that leaned to the right. Twitter was garbage before and it's garbage now only difference is the whole spectrum of political scum have a voice instead of only half of it
