I don't want to jump the gun and say Nosferatu was the best of 2024. But it's easily in the running. The atmosphere/setting/imagery alone is almost worth going to see. It helped get me through some of the beginning. A tad slow and somewhat difficult to follow with a couple of lowgrade jumpscares, but when our mans Thomas went in for the kill and Orlok spoke "Your husband is no longer needed (paraphrased). Dream of me", I was locked in. Wasn't even half expecting this movie to be as demonically erotic as it was. Ellen was on the verge of cumming for basically the entire movie. The effects were great. Normally I don't like when horror movies have super high production value that kind of beef up the visuals or make a characters voice extra deep and echoy, but that shit worked here.
I'm going 8.2.

I've heard Skarsgård worked with an opera singer to learn to drop his voice like that. I'm sure some effects were still used but some is himJason wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 4:59 am I don't want to jump the gun and say Nosferatu was the best of 2024. But it's easily in the running. It's certainly manufactured to some extent, but it worked well enough for me. Eggers really knocked this out of the park.Tiggnutz wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 5:05 amI've heard Skarsgård worked with an opera singer to learn to drop his voice like that. Re: December 30th, 2024
I'm indecisive on which movie is best between Late Night With the Devil, Longlegs and Nosferatu. I realize Late Night with the Devil is technically 2023, but I'm lumping it in with this year, so eat shit and live.
My tier 2 would be The First Omen followed by The Substance. Can't think of any other 2024 horror I've seen.

Haven't seen the 3rd. But if it's any consolation, all movies listed above I'd put ahead of the two Terrifier movies I've seen.

Doesn't sound like you think 2024 was such a strong year for horror like some other folks around here. Only 5 flicks and one don't even count and broke fucking kayfabe. Pfft.

Re: December 30th, 2024
late night with the devil counts. it was released wide, in the year of our horror 2024!

If only Flickchart and IMDB would acknowledge the Wide Release as the year to stamp the film with.

Yes. Nosferatu has a massive budget. Which means they can afford Blue Oyster Cult.Reign in Blood wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 2:56 pmHave you seen the Evil Dead's budget?Jason wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 2:53 pmEver heard the end credits of The Evil Dead?Reign in Blood wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 2:50 pm Lmao, so would everyone else that saw it because it would have been laughably horrible and out of place.![]()

Let us not compare what a bunch of drunken college kids do with 100 bucks in their pocket versus a serious 50 million dollar Victorian production with top flight industry pros.

So you're saying BOC's Nosferatu does not belong at the end credits of this movie?
