Laz's Top 50 Horror Films

Post by Lazerus »

So, I have been working on this for the past few weeks. I used Flick Chart to help with the rankings and it worked out nicely.
Darren had told me about it a few years back and I played around with it for a bit then simply forgot about it until my vacation during the holidays. I decided to finish it and now share it on here. There are still some movies near the bottom half that I would probably moved around a bit more but overall I am pleased with the results.

So here is my official top 50 horror films list:

1. The Thing
2. Black Christmas (1974)
3. Prince of Darkness
4. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
5. Halloween (1978)
6. Evil Dead (2013)
7. Hellraiser (1987)
8. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
9. Suspiria (1977)
10. The Exorcist (1973)
11. The Howling (1981)
12. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
13. Evil Dead Rise
14. Friday the 13th (1980)
15. The House on Sorority Row
16. Bram Stoker’s Dracula
17. The Exorcist III
18. Saw
19. House by the Cemetery
20. Halloween II (1981)
21. Silent Night, Deadly Night
22. The Fly (1986)
23. Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Ok, I'll bite, what on earth did you like about House by the Cemetery? That entire thing is Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten. That is the only one that is completely incomprehensible to me to crack a top 20 and easily a giant skidmark on your upper echelon.

it’s a bloody film but mostly it’s the nostalgia. It’s one of the earliest horror movies I remember seeing when I was younger. The opening scene where the girl is stabbed in the back of the head has always stuck with me since the first time I watched it.

Hard to rank a nostalgia flick. I have many that really aren't that good but they just strike a cord in your young nerve and it never goes away.

Jack Frost forever baby.

Yeah. Like Jig and The Night Flier, if only a good flick was on that night for him.

I liked the Night Flier. Not the best flick but the vampire looked cool imo.
