seems like all in the family is pretty heavily slanted toward pointing out shortcomings and prejudices of old white conservatives. i'm only two episodes in, i like it. but does it change direction over time? this doesn't appear to be something that would appeal to jason but it's one of his favorites.

I drove through a massive car accident just now it happened right in front of me like Nascar type shit. My guess is the car that caused it was stolen.

Re: January 29th 2025
damn. i hope the other driver is okay.
Re: January 29th 2025
Drivers plural. He hit a bunch of cars it was total carnage. I would say he was going at least 100mph weaving in and out of cars than smacked a box truck

Re: January 29th 2025
that sucks. probably drunk. at least you weren't caught up into it. and yeah, drivers. i hope they are all alright.
Re: January 29th 2025
I see that kinda driving frequently, the cars are trying to get to Baltimore and most likely stolen

I watched the first six or seven episodes of All in the Family. Didn't hate it, but shows like Family Ties just appealed to me more (being ten years newer probably helped).zombie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 10:12 am seems like all in the family is pretty heavily slanted toward pointing out shortcomings and prejudices of old white conservatives. i'm only two episodes in, i like it. but does it change direction over time? this doesn't appear to be something that would appeal to jason but it's one of his favorites.

I was kinda blind on Harleys but knew I wanted one. Took me a long time to figure out, but I dug the Dyna Street Bob (not the softail Street Bob) a lot and ended up buying that one. The look is great, good for long rides and plenty of horsepower for a bike.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 9:17 amNot really. If you don't have your heart set on a Harley per se, the Indian and Triumph brands are very nice alternatives and cheaper.

Re: January 29th 2025
The show was designed to recognize the changing of the times with the clashing of a young and highly opinionated college guy and a blue collar middle aged working class guy. Mike was written to be the hero and Norman Lear didn't account for the amount of people who loved Archie, so he became even more comedic as the show goes on and the fan favorite of the show. By the end of most episodes, there generally isn't a clear winner and it aired during a time when people could just laugh and not judge each other so harshly for their political views.zombie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 10:12 am seems like all in the family is pretty heavily slanted toward pointing out shortcomings and prejudices of old white conservatives. i'm only two episodes in, i like it. but does it change direction over time? this doesn't appear to be something that would appeal to jason but it's one of his favorites.
Edith is my favorite character. She is the perfect "middle man" between Archie and Mike and always has something perfectly neutral to say in the middle of their clash. Even if she is a dingbat.

yeah, i get the sense that it shifted it's direction over time. fair enough.Jason wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 1:14 pmThe show was designed to recognize the changing of the times with the clashing of a young and highly opinionated college guy and a blue collar middle aged working class guy. It's a mostly liberal show. what is considered to be the quintessential episode or season of the show?Jason wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 1:40 pmIt's a mostly liberal show. Re: January 29th 2025
I think my favorite is season 5. As far as quintessential episodes go, I wouldn't be able to pinpoint an exact episode that you can skip to, but every once in a while an episode will floor you with sudden conflict or unspoken struggles that humanize the show completely. Makes it feel very real. For that reason alone, the spin off series Archie Bunker's Place must also be seen for a couple of specific episodes. It only ran three short seasons but is a must if you end up loving the show.zombie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 1:45 pmwhat is considered to be the quintessential episode or season of the show?Jason wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 1:40 pmIt's a mostly liberal show.
