The amusing thing is, the 40's are nowhere near as important to the genre as the 1920's, and the 20's aren't an option.

I've seen roughly 69 horror films from the 1940's, and 32 from the 1920's - while the 1940's has some great movies, as a decade, it's just beyond weak. Like, maybe seven movies stand out particularly well, but the rest of them could have easily come up ten years previously.

It is amusing, it's like people were pre-occupied with something else than making balls to the wall horror then. Can't imagine what that could have been, must have been tough being one of the Olds.

On the upside, it was a good decade for war movies. :P

Yeah. Impact/fright factor.
How so?
80s had the overall bulk of horror movies while the 70s was a little limited, but had the more serious and scary movies.
I say both decades had serious and scary movies. But to your point I don't recall seeing many films from the 70's that were a blend of horror & comedy as an example.

Well looking at the poll I'd say the 80's are definitely the winner!

I created the poll :P

I would say 80's horror was of (mostly) good quality films. The 70's had it's good hits too but when you compare the two decades, which one aged better?
