Well of course some fell short but he did say watered down, in which I think Myers lost popularity over time unlike some of his counterparts, especially from his grand debut. Jason went onto be indestructible and Freddy got funny but their popularity soared in the zeitgeist. Whereas Michael was becoming more and more irrelevant and weak sauce.zombie wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 2:32 pmthe original halloween is leagues better than the myers sequels/remakes. i'm not sure that other slasher sequels didn't also fell short of their original film though.Headhunter wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 2:13 pm The Myers sequels totally water down everything in a way other slasher franchise sequels don’t. I think Season of the Witch is the only sequel whose existence I can justify, because the anthology series angle is cool as fuck. The others are unnecessary.
I view the first Halloween as completely independent of everything that comes later. Even with something like TCM 2 that totally subverts TCM, that’s a bold and exciting creative choice. The Myers sequels do nothing remotely as interesting.

Re: May 20th 2025
i wouldn't mind seeing more final boys being panicked and fighting to survive. it can be done effectively.
Re: May 20th 2025
maybe so. the akkads did shy away from committing to cool twists. maybe halloween is like the nickelback or puddle of mudd of slasher franchises.Reign in Blood wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 2:41 pmWell of course some fell short but he did say watered down, in which I think Myers lost popularity over time unlike some of his counterparts, especially from his grand debut. It's kinda like wrestling. Jason learned how to tap into that Goldberg shit, Freddy learned how to cut a fucking promo, and Michael just sat there with his dick in his hands getting pushed down the card by girls and Paul Rudd neither of which hit puberty yet.

Just say the word, El El Sucio, ohhhh!

Re: May 20th 2025
The audience will always be less sympathetic or scared for a male survivor at the end.

It’s fine to fall short. Most good sequels do. Just be interesting. Have a reason to exist.zombie wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 2:32 pmthe original halloween is leagues better than the myers sequels/remakes. i'm not sure that other slasher sequels didn't also fell short of their original film though.Headhunter wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 2:13 pm The Myers sequels totally water down everything in a way other slasher franchise sequels don’t. I know 4 and 5 have their fans but to me those are the most pointless entries in the series.zombie wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 3:32 pmpoor danielle harris.Headhunter wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 2:52 pmIt’s fine to fall short. Re: May 20th 2025
i like them as they are, but part 4 was undercut by playing safe after the ending. i'm sure there was also other messing around that hurt it too.Headhunter wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 4:22 pmI know 4 and 5 have their fans but to me those are the most pointless entries in the series.zombie wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 3:32 pmpoor danielle harris.Headhunter wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 2:52 pmIt’s fine to fall short. The new Final Destination offers plenty of dumb fun. Nice send-off for Tony Todd.
