"Take Cover!"
Can anyone in the US imagine living under such a threat where our government tells you to hide because an adversary is firing missiles over the nation?
This happened in Japan today. What is it going to take?

I dunno. I mean I laid out my solution in the dedicated North Korea thread... But I guess it was more fun to start a new thread about how it's the biggest lose-lose scenario in the world.

Nothing funny to me about innocent people living under those circumstances.showa58taro wrote:I dunno. I mean I laid out my solution in the dedicated North Korea thread... But I guess it was more fun to start a new thread about how it's the biggest lose-lose scenario in the world.
Btw, I do not consider the people of North Korea to be completely innocent at this point.

Re: "Take Cover!"
You mean the ones in all the internment camps? Or the ones who have been brought up thinking there's an enemy at the gates at all times?Foo wrote:Nothing funny to me about innocent people living under those circumstances.showa58taro wrote:I dunno. Re: "Take Cover!"
All of them. The US is what it is because people stood up to fight their oppressors, even when it meant fighting their own government.showa58taro wrote:You mean the ones in all the internment camps? North Koreans are in the unfortunate position of making a choice. They fight their government or they are complicit. As far as I am concerned, the US, Japan, and the UN have innocent blood on their hands if North Korea hits someone with a missile.

Who are you expecting should be fighting the government, and why?Foo wrote:All of them. Pointing out the people of North Korea are complicit on some level.

Re: "Take Cover!"
Seems an odd stance if you're not referring to the actual government itself and its military, at this point, given how brutally oppressive the regime is. They have no idea about the reality of things.Foo wrote:Pointing out the people of North Korea are complicit on some level.
Re: "Take Cover!"
I don't buy into ignorance as an excuse. Too easy. The oppression is why they need to fight. The fact that they may lose their lives because of that tyranny is shy they need to fight. They can maybe die while fighting for their fellow man and their family or they can maybe die as collateral damage from others fighting their government.showa58taro wrote:Seems an odd stance if you're not referring to the actual government itself and its military, at this point, given how brutally oppressive the regime is. Re: "Take Cover!"
Fooski might sound harsh but what he says is true. The best outcome is North Koreans overthrowing their government. I can't believe the entire country all have the same hive mentality.
Re: "Take Cover!"
Let's play out the long term, what are the options:
1. A North Korea with long range nuclear weapons run by the same regime that is shooting missiles over neighbors and wants to hold the world community for ransom unless they get their way. They will use this to influence trade and get a seat at the world table.
2. Regime change
Any sanctions just kick the can down the road, at best. You run the risk of enraging North Korea, create stronger bonds between them, China, and Russia, or even killing millions through starvation.

You're both deluded.Tiggnutz wrote:Fooski might sound harsh but what he says is true. The best outcome is North Koreans overthrowing their government. I can't believe the entire country all have the same hive mentality.
Re: "Take Cover!"
i worry that this talk of the north korean citizens being complicit is some kind of justification if they get killed trying to take out kim?
Re: "Take Cover!"
Unless you think one day Kim Jung wakes up and decides he needs to be more responsible and respectful of the rest of the planet than it only ends one way he kills a bunch of innocent people or he and a bunch if innocent people are killed. Sad but true
Re: "Take Cover!"
something needs to be done, but you shouldn't excuse or dismiss civilian casualties. you should make your best effort to not kill civilians. you shouldn't be looking for excuses to justify the death of civilians. if it happens, call it out. hold soldiers responsible where they fuck up. don't just blow it off, cause you feel like "the north korean citizens should have cleaned up for themselves. so oh well".
Re: "Take Cover!"
Nobody excuses the loss of innocent civilians it's just something that has happened in every war to date and will happen in every war yet to happen.
Re: "Take Cover!"
yeah, civilians will die if you go to war in their country. i just find the victim blaming to be a little weird. you wouldn't do it in any other situation. why is it going here? why float that idea?
Re: "Take Cover!"
I think you may of misunderstood there's no blame except North Korean leadership. I can't even fathom being in the people's position but it doesn't change the fact that he needs to go.zombie wrote:yeah, civilians will die if you go to war in their country. i just find the victim blaming to be a little weird. you wouldn't do it in any other situation. why is it going here? why float that idea?
Re: "Take Cover!"
Be cool if they could block all oil going into North Korea see if that changes things.
