Looks like IT has now surpassed The Exorcist as highest-grossing horror film ever.

Definitely a combination. Just in the horror community we know they've been trying to remake it for years, so the fact it finally got off the ground with a R-rating and would be more faithful to the book was huge. Then the general pop, two guys at work for example, one guy sees movies frequently, never once in years since I've known him have I heard him talk about going to a horror movie, he gets scared and screams like a girl over a loud bang in the office let alone shit going down in a horror movie, he wants to go this weekend. Another dude, he never goes to the movies, he barely has time to catch anything on TV let alone an excursion to the theater (and he's notoriously cheap), him and his son went yesterday. It's created all the right kind of buzz.

Depends how the filmmakers influenced by the movie go about it. If they keep making movies like "Friend Request" it will mean nothing in the long run. Would rather it set a trend in making horror movies better than they have been, rather than setting a trend of people going to the movies to see horror again.

Remember, Friend Request came out back in 2016, so it's not like it's the first horror film to be made after It (even if it came out theatrically after It did, which is unfortunate).

Who knows - if Friend Request had been made after It, it may have been significantly different in some way.

i think that the boxoffice take of friend request will only serve to keep people from making that kind of horror. so positive all around?

Friend Request failed at the box office, so let's just forget it even exists at this point. People want to see good Horror instead of half assed shit that should debut on the $10 shelves at Wal-Mart.

This. IT is taking in mostly a resounding positive reception from horror fans and general pop alike.

I've actually had to rephrase my take on the movie to normal folk who know what a horror fan I am, as when I said I liked it a lot but it didn't live up to my expectations and my own hype I built up for the movie, they disregarded the "liked it a lot" and took it as me shitting on it. No, no, no, you commoner fucks, I love the mini-series, IT is probably my favorite book, and I've seen thousands of horror movies. So yeah, my bar, WAY different than yours over here who never watches horror, you over here who thought the 3 hour TV mini-series was actually a shorter major theatrical release, and you over here who just went to the theaters but can't remember what the fucking movie was! In the end, don't compare my experience, just go fucking see it.

I give it a 6/10. Hated the CGI. Didn't like the opening scene. The OG's opener was fantastic. Something you will remember for a long time. I thought the kids did a good job. Skarsgard was decent, but nothing compared to Tim Curry's amazing performance.

Had its strengths and weaknesses. CGI was much, but that is just how movies are made now. Practical effects are dead.

The new Pennywise was good in his own way, but being all creepy all the time is pretty counter-productive for a clown. In the original, Curry's Pennywise had an appealing personality to children with an unspeakably sinister motive. That wasn't emplemented here, and it held the movie back. The new Pennywise in the sewer scene was just being a genuinely creepy fuck the entire time. Curry's Pennywise had an extremely friendly and welcoming personality, which is why Georgie even trusted him in the first place.

Tim Curry is the reason people today have a fear of clowns. Acting like a creepy goof the entire time does nothing for the true horror aspect of Pennywise.
