agreed. and that works on an individual level. it just doesn;t work so much on a cultural or societal level. you can decide to not be racist and try to encourage that in others around you, but if the majority see a public figure who is fanning the flames, or carving the wound deeper, then it's going to be counter productive, and it reaches far beyond your own scope of influence.

Agreed but give the every day citizen the benefit of the doubt. In America leaders come and go they may encourage or discourage things but I doubt they do more than reach people who already believe what they do
